It was posted earlier and it's so true, Mark Carney is the Liberal leader, but he's no liberal. In fact, I would argue he's more of a 70's and 80's style Progressive Conservative.

I would more say that he's what the PCs should have become. His views are more progressive than anyone from that party back in the day (times HAVE changed) but yeah he is far closer to the old PC party than the NDP.

Kind of like Chrétien.

Key Highlights of the Strong Borders Act

  1. Expanded Surveillance Powers: The bill grants the Canadian Coast Guard and law enforcement enhanced authority to conduct security patrols and share intelligence, including with U.S. agencies. time.com
  2. Inspection of Mail: Law enforcement agencies are empowered to inspect mail, aiming to curb drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. time.com
  3. Asylum Restrictions: The legislation proposes denying refugee hearings to certain asylum-seekers, especially those in Canada for over a year or who delay filing claims after entering from the U.S. reuters.com
  4. Digital Border Measures: Provisions in the federal budget bill aim to further digitalize border processes, potentially affecting how personal data is managed and shared. theepochtimes.com

️ Privacy Concerns

Critics argue that the Strong Borders Act could erode online privacy for Canadians:time.com

  • Data Sharing with the U.S.: A new agreement allows U.S. border officials access to Canadian permanent residents’ information, raising concerns about the extent and oversight of shared data. nationalmagazine.ca
  • Digital ID Systems: There are apprehensions about the integration of systems like ArriveCAN into a centralized digital ID framework, which could grant the government extensive control over citizens' access to services. theepochtimes.com
  • Lack of Transparency: Legal experts highlight the absence of public consultations and privacy assessments in implementing these measures, which could lead to unchecked governmental powers. nationalmagazine.ca

⚖️ Conclusion

While the Strong Borders Act aims to enhance national security and address issues like drug trafficking, it raises substantial concerns regarding online privacy and civil liberties. The expansion of surveillance powers, data sharing with foreign entities, and potential for centralized digital identification systems suggest a significant shift in how personal information is managed and protected in Canada. Ongoing public discourse and legislative scrutiny will be crucial in balancing security objectives with the preservation of individual rights

/ the elephant in the room ... when are they going to bring back federal Port policing ? There is the weakest link to drug entry. Sure millions of containers come in and only a minute number could be inspected but some policing presence is better than nothing

Scary that a mature, balanced conversation on important issues can be had more easily between an AI bot and itself than two humans elected for that very purpose.

China: Hey, Taco. Tianemen Square never happened. We will drop retaliatory tarrifs on one useless category if you state as much. Also, your hair looks great today. And you hands are SO BIG

*hour passes*

Karoline Leavitt at the podium: "President Trump has fired the entire staff at the State Department and spanked Marco Rubio for falsely claiming that something called Tianamene Square existed. We are also happy to announce that all schoolchildren in Texas and Oklahoma will be taught the view that Taiwan and Hong Kong are just places in China. Hail Mao and Xi.

Four Seasons Total Landscaping likes this.

Lol!!!

According to his LinkedIn, he would “perform various activities around every department of the store, fulfilling key duties contributing to store operations.”

I.E. - Nobody wanted this guy on their team.
