In a statement given to the publication, Department of Health and Human Services spokesman Andrew Nixon said “minor citation and formatting errors have been corrected, but the substance of the MAHA report remains the same — a historic and transformative assessment by the federal government to understand the chronic disease epidemic afflicting our nation’s children.”

I honestly agree that the focus on the errors should not be the focus. I think the fact that Republicans have opposed every aspect of the actual solutions to these problems should be the focus of the criticism. The errors are just another symptom of gross and malignant incompetence.

Here's the thing about this report. It says America's health is suffering because of poor diet, aggregation of environmental chemicals, lack of physical exercise, and overmedicalization. No...fucking...shit.

So first, there is nothing novel about this. Second, Republicans have supported the root causes of these issues or opposed potential solutions to them consistently for decades.
  • Poor Diet - Republicans have mocked meat alternatives, portion size controls, etc. Freedom over health. Low costs over health. That's what the Republicans believe in since they have been the party repeatedly trying to repeal health coverage. You seeing a lot of stores focusing on unprocessed and healthier foods in conservative areas? Nope. Liberal neighborhoods are creating these markets and asserting demand on healthier foods.
  • Aggregation of Environmental Chemicals - Again, the Republican party has repeatedly tried to slash the EPA budget over the years and favored companies not being regulated. Agribusiness donations are 2-to-1 Republican to Democrats. See it here.
  • Lack of Physical Activity/Stress - Republicans are forcing people back to commutes, taking away food stamps and support for poor communities that have the worst health outcomes, etc. But both parties have promoted physical fitness and activity. Bush, Clinton, Eisenhower, Obama all had programs in this area. It's one way someone could use the Dept of Education instead of ending it.
  • Overmedicalization - Both parties are bad on this, but surprise surprise, the GOP takes more donations from big pharma. But of all the factors here, I'm sure someone is trying to wedge in vaccines and there is not scientific proof for anything related to vaccines except they have saved and improved millions of lives from death and debilitating mental/physical conditions. The fact is modern medicine has saved and improved lives, and the focus should be on letting DOCTORS make decisions free of big pharma and insurance companies. Again, what have Republicans done on that front - less than fucking nothing. They keep attempting to remove Obamacare and cut Medicaid instead of creating reform that improves the flaws of both.
So do our kids need to be healthier? Yep. This is what the ACTUAL scientists at your department have been working on for their whole lives, and they are not doing it for their own fame, to be on TV, or to sell supplements. And you are treating these amazing, intelligent people like garbage and cosplaying that you, a man with half his fucking brain eaten out, are smarter than them. You're not, you never were. You're a fucking idiot.

But all this report does is identify problems that are already known, the solutions for which have been the focus on many areas of Democratic legislation for decades. I'm not saying all those solutions have been great. But they have mostly been done in good faith with the interests and health of the people in mind rather than an "unhealthy" obsession with creating rules that protect billionaires and corporate America.

You have to love the mentality that if you get sick through no fault of your own (I see that a new strain of COVID is sweeping through the US and it's only a matter of time before it hits Canada) and you can't afford treatment, well too bad for you and you might die.

What a shitty response from a politician.

This from the guy who continues to live in a taxpayer funded residence and is forcing a by-election that will cost taxpayers over a million dollars because he doesn't have the guts to get himself an actual job.

"Memento Mori" is one heck of a slogan for a political party.

The border states that most Canadians want to visit (NY, WA, ME, VT) are all blue states so this won't even really hit Taco Man / GOP politically. Ya know thinking about it it seems a lot of the red states are kind of shitholes that no one wants to visit. Must be a coincidence.

My daughter along with a few friends recently visited Nashville and I think Tennessee is a red state. Nashville is a pretty cool place though and it looks like a pretty fun place to go to watch a Preds hockey game.

I really enjoyed my week I spent there in 2016. Johnny Cash museum was great but the Country Hall of Fame was fantastic. I really want to go back the States but even he lifts tariffs or says no we wont be taking people into custody, i am still not going I can not trust anything in that country until he is gone

(yes that is the Bandit)

I said most. And even within some shitty states there are often nice places. I've heard that Nashville is super fun. But overall the shithole factor seems to be higher in MAGAland.

Yeah, I wasn't calling you out or anything along those lines Kenny, apologies if my post wasn't clear. I still like to visit beautiful spots in Montana and Idaho and last I looked, they are very red.

Downtown Nashville near broadway is essentially vegas without the gambling/casinos. If you have kids no need to walk around there at night, nothing but bars/drunks and a LOT of country music.
