I was surprised that some of the coaches against expansion are those that would likely benefit and vice versa.

Who do you consider the 8 or 9?Of the 30 coaches that are for expansion, only 8 or 9 of them have:
a) Led a team to the playoffs in the past; or,
b) Likely to lead a team to the playoffs in the future.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson: Everybody focuses on the playoff games and the national championship. The way we have it right now, every game we have, especially once we were positioned, every game was a playoff game. Every game. Duke was a playoff game. South Carolina was a playoff game. Pitt was a playoff game. We have layers of playoffs. The more you expand, the less the season matters, especially if a team so-called already in the playoff, well, now you're going to have people not playing guys, just like you have in all these other sports. All of a sudden, games don't matter because everybody is just playing for the playoff and they're in. What we have is the best of both worlds.
Yeah, it was nice seeing the Cinderella UCF team have that chance to win it....no Cinderella will ever win a 4 team playoff, because no Cinderella will ever make a 4 team playoff.I think Babers stated what is probably behind their opposition to expansion.
Dino Babers, Syracuse: If it expands, I think it gives a huge advantage to the traditional powers. If you want a Cinderella team to win it one of these times, you can't have a Cinderella team going against traditional powers more than two weeks in a row. If it's three weeks, or four weeks of contests, it's going to be so physical, there's going to be so much carnage going on, that a team that doesn't have a lot of depth will never win it.

First, the been there, done that crew:
Mark Dantonio, Michigan St., once, but probably won't get back there again.
Brian Kelly, Notre Dame, once, and may get back again in the future.
Chris Petersen, Washington, once, but will have trouble getting back.
The searchers:
Ryan Day, Ohio St. - seems like a lock to get there (probably more than once).
James Franklin, Penn St. - could get there.
Chris Klieman, Kansas St. - has a shot if he can keep developing his program.
Gus Malzahn, Auburn - a longshot, but still a shot (if he can keep his job).
Max Rhule, Baylor - has a shot.
Kyle Whittingham, Utah - another longshot, but still a possibility.
A 10th coach that could possibly crash the party one day is Scott Satterfield at Louisville.
I'm not following how games suddenly don't matter
Jimbo was there (Oops! Forgot about that first-round pasting from 2014.)
Mack won a title (But not in the playoffs!)
Les won a title (But not in the playoffs!)
Gundy would've been in under a four team in 11
Patterson was right there in 14
Shaw was close in 15
Leach would've been in with a eight team with Crabtree
I get Les and Mack are exceptionally unlikely to do it again but we are talking perspective.
Even Taggart (now fired) would have a real good chance if he wasn't a shitty coach. (Seriously?)
Obviously Miami has been very good in years past.
Missed his face entirely. It hasn’t been seared in as a painful memory...yet.Looks like Day wants to expand from the graphic you posted
I think the least we could do is play 10 P5 teams across the boardYep.
Basically Notre Dame wanting their cake and the SEC.
no one is surprised

I'll bet Zach Smith has a few on his phone. They couldn’t have picked a creepier pic of Tom Herman

I like 8. P5 champs get an autobid, then any unbeatens, and the remaining slots go to at large teams based on a BCS type of computation. The same computation could be used for seeding. No committee would be necessary. We are talking about perspective of coaches. I'm not sure why it matters if they made the current version of the playoffs or the even more restrictive version previously
Yes any coach with a pulse should be competing for playoffs at FSU. Again....that would be the perspective of the coach.
We go to 8 and it opens the field up substantially.
Personally I'm ok with six but I can see 8 being the end result. I wouldn't want more than that.
