I have no issue with Kunitz. There are plenty of wingers who have NOT been productive playing alongside Cindy. In a tournament of this type a team that is able to quickly find good chemistry will beat a team with more talent but less chemistry, so adding a few pairs of guys who have already proven to click together makes perfect sense - it's also the reason why I'm surprised St. Louis was left off.

As to Nash, remember that he had great chemistry with Toews in the last Olympics, so I'd expect a Nash-Toews-Sharp line.

i think this is the main point of the argument in here.

from my perspective, kunitz is the least talented hockey player on the canadian roster. by a wide margin. as far as canada wanting physical wingers that can skate and thats why he ended up on the team, that may be. i think it has far more to do with the chemistry he has with crosby. and really, i guess you can't blame them for sticking to that. it's working for the pens, why not let it work for canada. no risk, no worries.

for the record, i think hartnell, simmonds, and kunitz are all essentially the same player. i think lucic is slightly more talented than the 3 of them, but plays the same game. i think david clarkson is a less talented version of them. i think jamie benn is what all of the above wish they could be, though he moved to center.

Simmonds, Kunitz, & Simmonds might be carbon copies of each other, but players like that are what team Canada needs (i.e., physical forwards that could score). Lucic probably is more talented than them, but IDK if his game will translate to IIHF rules as well as those other 3. Although he's a physical force and a great skater, he's also very goonish in the way he plays and that style of play is going to cost the team in international play.

I think leaving MStL off the team was the biggest mistake they made. Really what they did was discriminate based on size and size alone.

only thing i have to say that would disagree w/ any of that is that i think, even without kunitz, team canada has plenty of size and speed. but that's all personal opinion.

edit: i think with the talent that canada has available to them, they chose too much based on size and speed.

They for sure got size & speed, but disregard Kunitz and the only true power forward at the wing is Rick Nash who wasn't playing at a very high level when they picked the team.

They probably did overemphasize size & speed, especially if that's the reason for snubbing MStL.

I really like the way Finland put together their team. Not the most talented team but solid everywhere.

i count corey perry and jamie benn as power forwards.. they might not wreck you in the corner, but they're big guys who drive the net. you dont need guys who are going to wreck you in the corenr in olympic hockey, especially on an international rink.

Jamie Benn sort of fits the description, but IDK about Corey Perry. He comes off as more of a sniper to me. Not someone who will bang bodies, set screens, & cause havoc in front of the net.

Agree 100%.

Yeah Jeff, they omitted MStL for all the wrong reasons. Really sad they would overlook his stats, merit, skills, etc just because he's small.

Stamkos is probably going to play on the wing. Teams move centers to the wing all the time. And Giroux played RW until he's second nhl season when the flyers moved him to C. He's played more wing than Jeff Carter has at the very least.

I view Stamkos as a guy who plays Wing as much as he plays Center because he plays with St. Louis who can also play both positions. I could understand taking Giroux ahead of Nash because of the season he's having, but not Carter. Canada has enough playmakers on the roster. Carter is a goal scorer. At the same time Yzerman has to tell St. Louis why he didn't make the team. Heck I don't understand why Callahan & Stepan are on Team USA ahead of Pominville & Okposo.

So maybe Corey Perry & Ryan Getzlaf shouldn't be going because they've also been fortunate to play with each other their entire careers.

You could trade either of those guys to the worst team in the league and they'd still produce at a high level but would kunitz? Of course not that's why you don't see the pens trading him for a regular star player straight up. In the old days the pens used to love to pair up guys like brown and cullen with lemieux then shop them for stars like Francis....guess what happened? Those guys went back to reality sucked the big one and the pens were even better...rest of the league eventually caught on thank god. So please hang onto kunitz and treasure him as the last thing I'd like to see is kunitz for Perry or Getzlaf...only in your world...haha!

Also Benn, Perry, etc....are power forwards they can go to the net and can't be stopped. Plus they can hit I rank them well ahead of kunitz as Awaz mentioned. Heck I'd take Richards well ahead of kunitz as he can do the same job and play all positions, PP and PK. Kunitz play would drop if crosby goes down no doubt about it that's a risk.

Or in Doob's NHL '14 world! lololol

Ding Ding Ding, winner, I agree with everything you said! But I'm sure Doob with disagree with all of it.

If you guys could come up with arguments that didn't include words like "if", "could", "should", "would", etc, I would take the arguments more seriously. Such arguments are based on hypotheticals & assumptions, not facts.

If Doob could think with a straight mind and not a homer mind, he would see things differently. Better?

I'm going by stats. You don't see me defend Orpik when people say he shouldn't be on team USA. I'm not upset with Tang not making team Canada, nor do you see me make a big deal about James Neal not making team Canada either. I'm not looking at this from a homer view, mostly it's statistical. Stats say Kuni deserves to be there.

Question is
If you could pick Giroux or Kunitz to play on you're team right now, who do you take?

I thought so
