Gotta disagree about chemistry. If chemistry could be taken for granted, Canada would win the gold every year. Chemistry clearly played a part for Sweden when they won the gold in 2006. I don't think you could take chemistry for granted when you have so little time to prepare.

Canada could lose early on with guys who have chemistry, it's a short series, anything can happen, you take the absolute most skilled guys because at any point those guys could score a big goal for you

And how do we know how Kunitz can play on a bigger ice? He might not be as good on the bigger ice

Canada could lose early on with the best players as well. What's your point? Also, pretty sure every Penguin could play on a bigger ice surface. That's not going to hurt his game. What would hurt is having a bunch of playmakers but no power forwards to pass the puck to.

Are you sure every Penguin could play on on a bigger ice surface? Brooks Orpik seems like a guy that might have trouble on the bigger surface, and that's why I didn't like that pick for Team USA

And you can use quotes all you want but there are situations where you need to have your best players out there, if a player is only good because he has chemistry with one specific player, that would worry me - I shouldn't have to worry, if I'm a coach, when it comes to putting guys together, if I have to put a guy with someone just so he can have success, he shouldn't be on the team, because what if for some crazy reason, Crosby gets hurt? Who's Kunitz going to play with now? Kunitz shows that anybody can play with Crosby and there are so many better players(especially Marty St. Louis and Claude Giroux) that can play on that team too

I get why Team Canada did what they did but that doesn't make it right or justified

Kuni also has plenty of experience playing with Getzlaf & Perry. Nice try tho.

Seems like everyone Sid dishes an assist to instantaneously becomes Sid's "butt buddy". Sorry, Sid is dating an A&F model. Only relationship Sid & Kuni have is scoring glorious goal after glorious goal.

I didn't want to do this but...

Chris Kunitz: 23 goals, 25 assists, 48 points, +23

Claude Giroux: 13 goals, 26 assists, 39 points, +3

That's why G will be sitting at home while Kuni reps Canada @ Sochi.

And G doesn't play with anybody anywhere close as good as Kunitz does sooooooo

So until now Sid was an overrated crybaby and a possible homosexual. Now he makes so called "scrubs" put up better numbers than Giroux. If Sid is that good, then he should have every right to pick his linemates, and I'm pretty sure Sid would pick Kuni over Giroux.

Can't wait to see them flop and lose to a shitty team. I'll be rooting for anyone they are playing against!

Oh and by the way, Jeff Carter: 15 goals, 12 assists, 27 points, +6, you were saying???

I'm not getting into Jeff Carter, Cobie is the Flyer/King fan, I'll let him handle that one.

Also,

Sid has fabulous breath, unlike Flyer fans he brushes his teeth regularly.

All the arguments are based on hypotheticals. What other way to simulate these hypotheticals?

here is a hypothetical for ya doobee...

how upset would you be if the olympics were in 2012 and team canada took scott hartnell? it pretty much would be the exact same situation. a better than average player having a great year solely due to the domination of the other players on his line. he's just not elite and therefore should not be on the olympic roster, i think the argument is that simple.

Exactly that was my point. Typical pen fan over rating his players again nothing new here....do you seriously think that kunitz point totals don't correlate to him playing with crosby? He's been fortunate to play with some very good players in his career as Getzlaf is no slouch neither Malkin but come on man his points are inflated right now....

I expect Orpik to get beat wide every game on that ice too he's simply too slow that's why Canada focused on speed.

Which is why he never should have been picked for the team.

If Hartnell led all players at his position in points & led the league in +/-, then it wouldn't upset me much.

So maybe Corey Perry & Ryan Getzlaf shouldn't be going because they've also been fortunate to play with each other their entire careers.

where do you rank chris kunitz as a hockey player. not based on stats, but based on how he plays game. from all your posts it looks like you get a fair viewing of most of the NHL teams/players (props to ya), i'm curious to see where you think chris kunitz stacks up against the rest of the league on sheer talent.

kind of an ambigious question i suppose, but give me a couple guys you think he is better than, equal to, and slightly less than.

Hard to rank without stats, but I don't think he's more talented/skilled than Giroux or MStL. I just think that even if you disregard stats there aren't many wingers today with the the skating ability & physical play of Kunitz. Keep in mind that Team Canada was looking for physical wingers that could skate which is why they also picked Rick Nash on this team.

i think this is the main point of the argument in here.

from my perspective, kunitz is the least talented hockey player on the canadian roster. by a wide margin. as far as canada wanting physical wingers that can skate and thats why he ended up on the team, that may be. i think it has far more to do with the chemistry he has with crosby. and really, i guess you can't blame them for sticking to that. it's working for the pens, why not let it work for canada. no risk, no worries.

for the record, i think hartnell, simmonds, and kunitz are all essentially the same player. i think lucic is slightly more talented than the 3 of them, but plays the same game. i think david clarkson is a less talented version of them. i think jamie benn is what all of the above wish they could be, though he moved to center.
