Report: Veteran Forward Chris Clark Accepts Invitation to Bruins Camp - Boston Bruins - NESN.com

If there are any Bruins players who plan on being content with last year's accomplishments, there will be at least one new face in camp willing to give them a run for their money -- and their job.

Veteran winger Chris Clark has reportedly accepted an invitation to Bruins camp. Newsday's Katie Strang reported the news, and Clark's agent, Peter Fish, told The Boston Globe that his client will be in B's camp.

Clark, 35, collected 15 points in 53 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The winger was drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1994, where he made his NHL debut during the 1999-2000 season after spending four years at Clarkson University and another in the minors. He eventually moved on to play for Washington, where he became the team's captain.

Clark has battled injuries over the years (including last season), something that has limited his playing time as of late. However, if healthy, he could provide another veteran presence up front for the B's. The most difficult thing for Clark, though, will be cracking a forward unit that is already pretty deep, even before you factor in some of the younger talent that will make a push for jobs during camp.

As Kirk Luedeke pointed out on HockeyJournal.com, Clark is a New England native from South Windsor, Conn., who grew up with Bruins great Cam Neely as his favorite player.

Not sure how I feel about this... JUST FUCKING SIGN MARCHAND!

Im just getting worried with Marshy not being signed yet. I feel like there is no possible way he isn't in Boston this season... But who the fuck knows. Gettin' a little long in the tooth here. The kid deserves to be here.

LOL... Clark is a solid guy and will be a good influence on some younger guys, even if ends up only being for training camp.

As for Marchand? He was awesome in the playoffs and he's a good young talent, but really the Bruins don't NEED him, IMO. They have the depth to wait him out and get him signed on their terms. If he wants to be a stubborn little fuckface, then your team has the horses to let Brad sit or trade him when a decent package comes along.

In short the Bs will be very good with or without Marchand in the short term.

True dat. There are reasons he stayed on the Jackets roster, none of which were related to stats.

He helped Nash and Vermette both tremendously. I'd love to see him back here just for that reason, but tough times and a GM who is finally spending money dictate otherwise. Best of luck Clarkie, and thanks.

Recchi gave a ton of insight and helped mature Marchand and Seguin big time. His influence was definitely seen last season. We don't need another mentor. We need offense.

Yeah, I don't get the no sign on Marchand either. The guy had 19 points in 25 games in the playoffs and while I would never argue he's even close to one of the Bruins' best 3 players, I thought he was one of the 3 most important guys in the SCF this past year.

Chris Clark is a waste for them - no offense, mediocre defense, great in the locker room (something the Bs don't need), and often injured. Bad combo.
