From Roto. I'll connect my own dots and say he fits better in Detroit.

ESPN New York calls free agent C.J. Spiller an "ideal fit" for the Jets.
This is a simple connection of the dots. Chris Johnson is expected to be cut, leaving the Jets in need of a speed complement to Chris Ivory. Spiller did his best work as part of Chan Gailey's spread offense in 2012, racking up 1,703 total yards and eight touchdowns for him in 2012. Now Gailey is the Jets' offensive coordinator and Spiller won't be expensive after compiling a wildly disappointing 280-1,233-2 line over the last two seasons (24 games). Feb 9 - 9:47 AM

Makes sense to me.

Mayhew loved Spiller coming out and his skill set seems to be exactly what we need. My only concern would be his relatively extensive injury history.

What about taking a look at Johnson if he's cut? He's not the back he once was, but he's still got that home run speed and had a decent season on a disastrous Jets offense. Price tag should be cheap as well...

Only question is cap space to make the signing. If going all-in for the next 2 years and renegotiating both Megatron and Stafford to make it work, then can happen with Suh too. Otherwise only realistic if no Suh.

I don't think his contract demands will be too high. The veteran RB market is very team friendly and Spiller is coming off back-to-back seasons with limited production.

I'd bet we can get him for half of what we paid Bush, both in per-year and total guaranteed $$...

This is the guy I wanted all along. Younger and more explosive than Bush. Him and Suh this off-season with some savvy vets to fill out the roster this off-season would make me very happy.

Wouldn't be all that upset if Spiller is brought in. Im a big fan, especially since he's a dual threat.

But...... the guy missed 7 games this past year. My main issue with Bush is durability. And ball control. And Spiller isn't an upgrade with either. And he'd give us a 28 and a 29 year old as the top two backs.

Rather see us go after a RB early in the draft and hope for the best. But Id rather see Spiller over almost any FA RB. So..... basically...... Id rather not see a FA RB.

But yes, apples-to-apples I'd much rather have Duke Johnson.

But what if we signed a RB like spiller and used that 2nd or 3rd rounder on an o-lineman or a CB or DT/DE?

Lots of options/scenarios to consider and discuss...

I not sold that a rookie RB fits into this regimes vision and window to win a Super Bowl. Like Bush, Spiller has a veteran presence and proven NFL experience. Just seems to be the kind of guy they'd target.

They might see Spiller as their Tate of their backfield.

Man, we aint getting Duke Johnson in the third. Thats some wishful thinking. I'd like to have Spiller but I'm not sure if we would get a healthy player in him. I dont know.

Maybe, but RB is the easiest position for a rookie to step into and contribute. I'm sure the playcalls are more complex and there's more duties, but it's still basically just receive the handoff and run to daylight.

Any thoughts by anyone on Chris Johnson? Talk about your home-run threat...

If they are interested in a rookie back I agree that DJ fits the scheme well.

I think Chris Johnson is done but if they got him cheap it would definitely be interesting to see if he'd make a comeback with this O.

He averaged a clean 4.3 YPC last season...

I don't think he's done, he's just not the work-horse 300 carry per season back he was 4 years ago. I think in a committee approach he could be a real weapon. He looked plenty explosive still when we played the God Damn Jets this season.

I'm willing to bet his speed still strikes fear into opposing d-coordinators.

Might be a good value option. When was the last time he played in an offense with enough talent that the defense couldn't just key in on stopping him?

I think he might even be a little under-rated at this point: he started his career with 6 straight 1,000 yard seasons, and is one good season away from cracking the 10,000 yard mark.

Add in in a career mark of 4.5 YPC and 60 total TDs and he's had a helluva career. Not too many backs ever make it to 10,000 rushing yards and 2,500 receiving yards in a career.

Obviously he's getting older, but I think he's still got some juice in the tank, plus he was used fairly lightly last season. If we were to sign him to split time with Joique, rather than be a lead back, I think he could give our offense that home-run threat out of the backfield and at a team friendly price to boot.

Maybe CJ0K would play better with more effort if he thought his team actually had a shot at the playoffs and beyond:noidea:

CJ0k has a hard time hitting the holes. You thoght Reggie danced around the backfield? Every time I watched CJ last year he couldn't pick a hole to save his life. Or maybe there wasn't a hole there. If not, signing him won't help us any as our line isn't the hogs of Washigton.
