Very surprised to hear this. I really like him as an analyst. He's come a long way from his showboating, whiney self in college and the beginning of his NBA career. He turned into a fine man from a churlish child. I hope he stays

Figures Monty would like him, being as though he's terrible at it.

I will have to say I change the channel faster on his Fab five teammate, Jalen Rose. His antics just grate on my nerves instantly. The man absolutely can not sing and tries to sing every line he speaks.

He’s channel-changing bad. Won’t be missed.
I like the fact that he doesn't hoot and holler and guffaw every time someone dunks the ball. And he doesn't seem to impressed with Lebron James when James tries to sound intelligent.

He's overcome a lot and has really changed over the years.

Marv should go ahead and retire. He's a legend but he's seriously been slipping the last couple of years due to his age, especially this year. Doing games remotely likely hasn't helped, but he's been lost several times during games.

Things could change but the Lakers do not look like a team that can win 16 (17?) playoff games and repeat

In game commentary just isn't his thing. He's never been good at it. He's actually pretty decent as an in studio guy but there's not really anywhere for him to go now. With him still beefing with Jalen Rose (and the rest of the Fab 5), I doubt ESPN* would add him unless they got rid of Jalen, which they seem to have no interest in doing.

*Separate tangent, ESPN needs a FULL revamp of their pre, half, and post game shows. They literally aren't even trying anymore. Why the hell is the NBA so content to keep giving them the Finals every year with that kind of effort? Give it to Turner and work out a deal to put it on CBS if ESPN/ABC keeps being so lazy with it

^^^This^^^

He shares a lot of "insider" type stories that I really enjoy hearing. But they get in the way of his in game commentary. There's an art to mixing in those kinds of stories with actual game commentary and he's not very good at that mix.

They're never going to have what TNT has with Shaq, Chuck, Kenny and Ernie, but they can at least try to come up with something that can be competitive.

It's like Fox's college football pre-game show. It's never going to match College Gameday, but at least they try, so the show doesn't suck.

I totally agree that they're never going to have that Inside The NBA vibe that EJ/Kenny/Chuck/Shaq have, but they seem to use that as an excuse to not really try. It can't be replicated exactly, but you can get close enough to where something is still entertaining. Turner even did it themselves. Their Tuesday Night crew with Shaq, Candace Parker, and Dwyane Wade is still very watchable and miles better than anything ESPN has done. It's not the Inside crew, but its still good. I see no reason why ESPN can't replicate that Tuesday crew vibe. But they can't ever get a crew with chemistry for some reason and everything feels so forced and produced.
