i am not condemning him either . he is scared he will get hurt . he can retire if he cant overcome or balance that fear and i dont blame him

it tells me what his priorities are and football doesnt out weigh possible injuries . that is fair and he shouldnt be blamed for making a choice that is his . but dont tell me he isnt scared because that is exactly what he is he is afraid .

hell i am afraid of things too doesnt make me a bad person nor is borland a bad person

and he isnt a hero because he protected himself . he found out that the risks dont outweigh the rewards as people do in every form of occupation they take up

yippee he found out that this occupation isnt for him good for him

He turned down a career that would have probably netted him well over 50 million dollars, in order to live a happier life. Says something about his character. While on the field, he was one of the very best, and without a doubt, one of the toughest.

i am not uninformed about anything Seau did have concussions , many of them .

he can be scared if he wants to . and you can be impressed as can others . he isnt a hero in my book and he doesnt love football . all of that is ok in my book

retiring from football because he is scared of concussions is just that scared it isnt uniformed . it is what it is nothing wrong with admitting your scared

and courage is simply being afraid but going anyway again its his body his life and he can do what he wants .

Who called him a hero? I basically have read a bunch of responses here basically stating that people respected his decision not that he was a hero. For the most part most/all NFL players are not heros (except ones that do exceptional things off the field).

Also - why does this mean that he doesn't like football? It is a matter of priorities. I may say love driving cars very fast but will refrain from doing it to the extreme to avoid tickets & jail time. Same thing here - he probably loves the game but in his mind not at the expense of losing several years of his life (NFL players have much lower life expectancies than most) or having quality time with his family down the road. Also - he might not need millions of dollars & might have other ways of making money.

None of this also indicates that he is scared - it is just a decision that is right for him & not necessarily anything else. You appear to be taking this a little too personally.

I really don't know what to make of this story. My first thought, and one that remains, is good for him for having the guts to walk away from millions of dollars to preserve his health. And as we see more of these situation I was convinced that it was a trend and wondered how that would change football.

But then I heard Czabe on the radio point out it is 2-3 guys out of hundreds, not exactly a trend yet. And as heartbreaking as the stories of the old players is I'm pretty sure they are in the minority and of course we never hear from the thousands that are just fine decades later.

Still if I were in Borland's shoes I can certainly understand he wants to get out. I went through this when I rode a motorcycle, sometimes you just know when it's time to stop rolling the dice.
