I don't think we're stuck with Dalton as long as you guys think we are..... I think there is a good chance that we fall flat this coming season, or at the very least fail to advance past the first round of the playoffs.

Anything short of a playoff win will create a lot of pressure and Marvin is coaching in a lame duck season. Mike Brown is a loyal dude, but he might choose to move on at that point. If he does, I think a new coach would want to draft his own quarterback and Dalton would be gone.

Alternatively, I can see Mike Brown sticking with Marvin and I can see Marvin throwing Dalton under the bus as he 'rebuilds' the team. In this scenario, we'd probably do away with our older tackles, move on from some of the defensive vets, and Marvin would carry a shovel around talking about building the team around his young foundation.

The only way I see a problem is if we get another playoff spot and then win a game. If that happens, Marvin is re-signing a three year deal and Andy will be nominated qb for life.

Rest assured. This is one the one thing we don't have to worry about. Marvin and Dalton may stay in 2016. But it will be because Mike Brown is a hack. We will NEVER win a playoff game with Andy Dalton at QB. Let alone with Marv at head coach.

Whatever it takes to maintain misery. Either Brown decides these are my guys no matter what, or win get that first playoff win because of some freak accident during the game that helps us squeek by a team that should have never been in the playoffs at all because they were 8-8 and won the last game of the season on some blown call by the ref.

Either way, abandon all hope. Throw yourselves from the highest bridge. Down half the bottle of Vodka, dump the other half over your head and light the torch. This is life in hell as we know it. Prepare for eternity in misery.

Dalton will be cheap, though. Mike Brown loves cheap. Especially when he can trout out the playoff caliber QB at a 'steal'.

If we're lucky, after this year, they'll at least draft a guy. Assuming Marvin is gone, and the Bengals implode this year. We probably won't be that lucky. Somehow they'll win another 9-11 games, make the playoffs, and once again offer up a nice turd sandwich.

But hey...we'll have a cheap playoff caliber QB for years to come.

He won't be as cheap as a rookie (even a 1st rounder) on his first 4 year contract. And Dalton is not cheap on the back end of the deal. 10 million in 2016, 13 million in 2017.

If you were making a decision based on finances, you'd cut him..... If we all agree that Mike Brown loves money, his best option would be a new guy.

It's tough to imagine keeping the current regime (Marvin and Dalton) after next season without a playoff victory. 5 straight first round exits in the playoffs is almost unheard of. Even for Mike Brown, who may be starting to run out of patience with this bunch. I hope (and by hope I'm talking about a bong ripping pipe dream) that missing the playoffs altogether would be enough to force a change. At the very least with the QB position.

But then again, this is Mike Brown and these are the Bengals. Might as well start drinking now.

I've been drinking since Mike Brown took over the running of this team. One of these years I'll finally catch a buzz.

the solutions to fix this team are so simple it's freaking scary.

Yeah, change owners, fire head coach, release the starting QB, move the team to Las Vegas where the team plays in a air conditioned dome with retractable roof (like Dallas), move them into a new casino/stadium called "Sports World" where there is memorabilia from all the sports (kinda like a Canton of the West for football, baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, racing, etc.) with themed bars, rooms, etc. A HoF that Pete Rose would be the star attraction in Vegas. :)

are you going to package the Reds with the Bengals in the new Sports complex?

Cincinnati would be a great place for a AAA baseball club, people around here are happy to root for second rate shit anyhow.

And don't discount how happy Cincinnatians get on free giveaway and gimmick nights at the ballpark..... Triple A is full of that crap.

my strat is a bit different.

since we are hitting the ceiling at round 1 of playoffs with Dalton, it's simple. trade Dalton for picks. we could obviously get a second rounder and a few roster filler guys for him.

use the money to sign some depth on the OL, get a not great but decent 3rd RB like Reece or Tolbert (not just a special teamer) and go with Hill/Bernard/new-guy for a run-first identity.
I know it's not popular, but sign Tebow to a 2 year deal, when McCarron (or a drafted QB) eventually gets comfy in the pocket, we can release him back to his microphone duties. Yes, he has issues with accuracy, but he rarely turns the ball over, he can run a 2 minute drill better than Dalton and is ok with a run-first offense. The experts came out and said he would fail week after week and he proved them wrong week after week, it was comical, and it's still comical that people think that Brady Quinn is more useful to an NFL team than he is. and if the haters are right and we go 0-16, then we just 'sucked for luck', that's a win-win. Like I said, it would just be temporary. not put me in charge of the Bengals, make me the GM and I'll work my magic.

I'd wear a custom Tebow jersey to a Bengal game, but that's just begging for some bitter agnostic to throw beer at you.

the television clips would be awesome.

I mean really, are you motivated by an Andy Dalton pep talk:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iwstuKXshY
(after watching this video, I had to do 10 positive affirmations so that I could feel my soul again)

when I listen to a Tim Tebow pep talk:

(after watching this, I have to inject myself with a tranquilizer just so I can stop running or I'll eventually pass out and end up in the hospital)

Why do people care that he's religious? Half the damn league thanks god when they score a touchdown or win a game. Hell, Kitna used to wear a cross hat before the league was purchased by Nike. Being religious does not make you a minority in the NFL.

there was the whole debate about whether God was helping him score Touchdowns because he sucked so bad at football but was so good at building hospitals.

It was a very fallacious argument, but I've seen some people curse and rage about Tebow and his "f him and his f'n goody two shoes bullshit routine" a little too hard, most of them were Steelers fans though, lol.

Naw. The answer is not Tebow and God (God don't care about football where guys are tryign to kill each other for fun). The answer is Vegas and selling our souls to the devil. That is the only way we see a Bengals Championship. So for me, I guess it is business as usual. Not about to sell my soul.
