Ah, yes. The year the Red Sox and their fans became Yankees Lite: all the arrogance with a fraction of the success.

No no no. I know that's YOUR and your delusional brethren's theory. I wanted to see if Slinky parroted back that tin foil hat story. If he did, I'd know he's a closet Yankee fan. You just ruined my litmus test.

There is nothing delusional about it.....The fact that you don't follow baseball is not my problem.....It was very well publicized that Cashman came out and said "We will not be retaining him" when Arod opted out during the World Series, only to be signed by the hierchay the next day
And CC? Or are we going to pretend the CC extension has worked out wonders since he pitched better in 2016. Who wouldn't want to give an extension to a guy who opts out of a playoff game to go to rehab?
Wow, that's a bigger gap than I thought too. It definitely gives the GM more room for error. Not every team has that luxury (which I guess is why NY sometimes has to pay a luxury tax)Here's something mind-boggling:
According to Forbes, the Phillies' revenues are WAY closer to the Rays than they are the Yankees.
NYY - $516MM
PHI - $263MM
TBR - $193MM
The difference between NYY and PHI is nearly four times that between PHI and TBR.
The Yankees are simply playing a different game than the rest of the league from a financial standpoint. Hell, their revenues are nearly 20% more than the 2nd place Dodgers.
Yeah, you're right with the Wild Card not many teams are really "out of it" any more until you get into the season and see what happens with injuries, rookies, etc. It's just one of those moves that would be way too risky for most teams to make. I've seen the Phillies crippled in their ability to make moves because of a few bad decisions, but I'm sure they are working under a "Salary Cap" imposed by ownership, which may not exist for the Yankees (or if it does it is much higher)Five more wins could have landed them a wild card.
If the youngsters progress in 2017, they could definitely be in the wild card hunt.
CC got an extension after 2015?
This is Breaking News!
You better run to the newspapers Joanie

Yeah, as long as they keep the "team control" rules in effect it should keep the game balanced. That at least allows the team who brought a player up from the minors to get their most productive years.Exactly. Bad contracts that would cripple other franchises are minor irritations for the Yankees.
I haven't sifted through the new CBA or even read about how it might change the financial landscape, but just based on revenues alone, I was comfortable saying that if they so chose to, the Yankees could afford a $300MM+ payroll. That might not be the case with the new CBA, I don't know.

Well here's the test. Did you think the decision to sign Arod to that extension was a good idea? What about CC's extension? Another good move by Cashman?
Castro sucks. So, the Cubs traded Castro, Torres, and McKinney to the Yankees for a half year of Adam Warren and a half year of Chapman, both of whom are back on the Yankees now. If the Cubs lose the World Series last year, Epstein looks like a fool and cashman looks like a genius. Cashman pretty much stocked the Yankees farm system last year while only giving up Andrew Miller.
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be alive in 2124Just wait til the Cubs get another ring on their fingers
