Considering he will only be 29 on opening day, I'm fine with a 5 year deal.

Now Betances goes back to that 7th/8th inning role. Thank the lawd. 9th innings were a bit too eventful with him as closer

$17 mil is a little high for a closer. But I am not going to complain as long as we have the money for Harper next year.

Not surprising. I'm torn on how I feel about our rental of Chapman. He did help us some in a few playoff games especially game 5 of the World Series. Since I can't definitively say the Cubs wouldn't have we in the WS without Chapman I'm OK with how everything turned out. Losing the prospects sucks but the reality is those guys probably weren't ever going to be everyday players for the Cubs.

Yanks have money to spend. Why not make the back end sick for years?

They will be an interesting club to watch next year.

Or not.

Traded for prospects and back to the Bronx, even if it becomes an overpay. Solid closer but they needed to address SP

Whether this deal is successful or not is contingent on whether his velocity drops in year 2 or 3, or drops in year 4 or 5.

I don't see him ever becoming a true pitcher and when he doesn't have 102, he doesn't have much.

Paying 86 million to guy who pitches ~70 innings a year is mind numbingly stupid. Again, see Jonathan Papelbon or B.J. Ryan

If it does drop by year 3 then we can hope he uses his opt out clause and go elsewhere.

I'm sure they will eventually. Would be nice to pickup 2 starters.

This was exactly my thought and frankly, I'm not sure how confident I am that he's going to be bringing that heat into his 30's.

It's a risky signing, in my opinion. On the other hand, the Yankees are a team that can afford to take on a shitload more risk than any other team in baseball, so if was a Yankees fan, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Of course, if I was a Yankees fan, I'd be too busy trading handjobs for meth in a truckstop bath room to be too concerned about much of anything.
