I thought Brady played terrible. And his performance since 17-0 in 2007 definitely has me re-thinking his legacy.

Brady is a great player, but his entire career he's had the fortune of a lot of great circumstances. One thing that also gets overlooked is how good his teams always are at yac.

At least he can win his first game. Is his legacy as good as it used to be? Not at all, is it better than Mannings? Absolutely.

A choker is a choker, no matter where he does it.

Or you could argue Manning didn't have the fortune of playing Houston in the first round. Otherwise, it may have been Manning that lost in the AFCCG and Brady in the divisional round.

Or Houston could have beaten Denver and NE might have beaten Baltimore that day. Then NE beats Houston and goes on to win the SB. That is absolutely stupid.

Yeah really. I'm tired of you being all over Mannings dick like he is Carson Palmer. I'm done with this conversation with you. It's moronic and Pointless. If not for his defense playing outta their mind and him playing Rex Grossman he never wins a SB and EVERYONE is saying he is a choker. Except he got lucky so guys like you love him. That's fine. Love him. But I'm done with talking football with you. Someone who can't talk, they think they are smarter than everyone else and that their opinion is golden. So fuck off and have a nice day.

I don't have the stats on it, but I'd say his teams that failed to win championships are much higher on YAC than those that won championships.

Their first championship team was more of a defensive team with good possession receivers. Their last super bowl team made use of Corey Dillon, a good D, and Brady's ability to win tight games.

I agree.

I guess the point was, since he lost that D and running game, he's remained in a great offensive system that has made his job a lot easier, just as it was when he won those SB's. Unfortunately for him, it isn't enough.

YAC can be because of accurate passing, hitting the receiver in stride so he doesn't have to slow down. It doesn't neccessarily mean the quarterback is more fortunate than good. In Brady's case especially there is much evidence of high accuracy.

Of course in Brady's case he's highly accurate. Every great QB would excel in that system. It doesn't however change the fact that putting some of the burden on the receiver/system with shorter, quicker passes makes his job easier than has been the job of many of the other greats.

From the glossary:

Air Yards (AY) - The passing yards forward of the line of scrimmage in which the ball travels through the air. In other words, it is total passing yards minus any yards after catch (YAC) gained by the receiver.

Air Yards Per Attempt (Air YPA) - The average air yards (AY) gained per pass attempt. Note that this does not include any sack yards.

Advanced NFL Stats - QB Air Yards

Filtering by "Air YPA", Brady was 20th this season in yards the ball traveled in the air per pass attempt.

To be fair though, he was 13th in completion %, so that hurts him a bit. But he also does have a higher %YAC than any of the other top players in the league (P.Manning, Brees, Rodgers).

I'm fairly certain that Joe Montana must be the all-time leader in YAC.... I'm not about to question his success.

BTW -- I think the Patriots were hurt yesterday by the gigantic fork that was sticking out of Welker's back. He'll probably play for the Jags next year.

Neither would I. Nor did I question Brady's success.

Interestingly though, both Montana and Brady have been the recipients of a LOT of fortunate situations, moreso than the other greats. THAT's the point.
