I'll start out by saying I don't want to see Gags go, at all. He is a classy guy and a team leader and losing him will make me sad. :(

Ok so Carter is not being traded(supposedly) but I can't help from wonder what is is that is making him untouchable, I mean even Gretzky got traded. I've heard various reason of why but no confirmation, these reasons including...He's a proven 40 goals scorer and you can't replace those these days. We think he's a natural left winger and playing which Richie will make him better.

I'm not disagreeing with either of these points as they may both very well be true but at the same time re-signing him may jeopardize locking Giroux, JVR and Leino up to long term deals. I know we have about 15m in cap space for next season and JVR isn't up for 2 more years but Carter's cap hit is going to be a big deal for this team for years to come. I can't see him taking a discount rate if he puts another 40g effort up this season and if he gets into Eric Staal type money we wouldn't be able to afford him and stay as deep. Then Let's say we let him go next year and even get 2 x 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd that doesn't gaurantee us that those will materialize into anything of true value for the Flyers.

My last concern is actually about any potential trade the Flyers make and it is WHY THE FUCK DO YOU NOT GET A GOALIE? Yea we have 2 great prospects that COULD be ready in a year or 2, in 2 years Riley Cote COULD also be the league's leading scorer but I doubt it. Point is we don't know when the goalies will be ready but we have the team now to win a cup, we have addressed out D and it is amazing now and guys like Giroux, JVR and Leion should be producing more(not to mention the bounce back year I'm hoping Hartnell has). It just feels like yet again we have a hole in goal tending and that could come back to bite us in the ass.

I WANT A FUCKING PARADE!!!

i doubt carter gets anything over 6 mil. richards gets 5.75 mil.

also, i do not think the chances of our goaltending prospects panning out are as far as cote leading the league in scoring.

we can also makes moves during the season so if we do not get a goalie and they feel like they need one then they could make a trade during the year.

I am aware of these tender prospects over seas, but how good are they expected to be?

eriksson is getting better and better each year. he was a 7th round pick and in 1 year his rankings went up and hockeysfuture now has him rated as a possible number 1. i am guessing if he keeps it up this year then they will have him ranked even higher. bobrovsky put up good numbers on a bad team so i think they have some good prospects. and they still like backlund.

Well that is great for me to put in the back of my head. At least this team has some future...goalie future none the less.

For all we know though Leighton could be for real. Who says last year was just a streak?

Yea the Cote comparsion was a bit much, eh Scott? I realize we could trade during the season but the price for goalies then is insane. I think Florida wanted Carter and a pick for Vokoun who granted is a good goalie but an aging one with a pretty big cap hit. Seeing the Flyers home grow a goalie is an exciting idea, but again how does that help now? Oh and that's Richie's cap hit which was a $69m 12 yr deal before Richie really blossomed. I can't see Carts getting a deal where the term is that long to pull down the cap hit to a reasonable level especially for a guy capable of contributing 40+ goals.

well they certainly seemed to have backed off about getting a young guy to come in.. the bernier, quick, schnieder, enroth, harding, etc. rumors seem to have died down, which IMO is a good thing.. those guys are going to cost too much talent to acquire, and we don't need to weaken the current team so we can wait a year or 2 for the goalie to get used to the NHL..

i think homer plans on making a bit of cap room, while getting another winger or 2, and start the season with leighton and boosh backstopping.. i'm ok with that approach.. the defense is loaded and i dont think the flyers will need a high-caliber goalie to be in position to get into the playoffs.. then come the deadline he will make the decision, based on more than just the 30 or so game leighton played this past season, to go with leighton and boosh or to acquire a new tender.. if he trades gagne for a cheaper winger then the room will be there at the deadline (plus the pro-rating of contracts)

carter isn't going anywhere because homer is all about the 'core' of the team, and richards and carter are at the center of that

richards signed that deal after his 80 point season. also, it is not like the pronger deal where they added on years to lessen the cap hit. backstrom makes 6.7 mil and had a 100 point season. carter should not even get 6 mil. hey, even briere makes 6.5 mil and had a 90 point season.

Scott you are correct Richie signed the season after he put up 75 points, I apologize. I'm hoping you're right, I'm just comparing Carter to Marleau I guess and he just got that huge 6.9m a yr extension. It just seems like proven goal scorers are getting more and more year after year.
