"Cardinals confirm loss of Carson Palmer to ACL tear":

USA Today said:
With Monday's confirmation from Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians that quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a season-ending torn left anterior cruciate ligament late in Sunday's 31-14 win against the St. Louis Rams, the NFC West-leading Cardinals (8-1) will now go as far as backup quarterback Drew Stanton can take them.

[...]

Palmer signed a three-year, $50 million contract extension Friday. He admitted he "cried like a baby" Sunday night when speaking with reporters Monday and also vowed to play again.

Can Stanton, an eight-year veteran now with his third team, take the Cardinals to a berth in Super Bowl XLIX, which would make them the first team to play the big game on their home field at University of Phoenix Stadium?

This sucks. The drop off from Palmer to Stanton isn't going to kill us, it just scares me to think if Stanton goes down we have to rely on Logan Thomas. :gaah:

It's a damn shame. I like the Cardinals. Palmer seemed like he was having fun out there and for him to miss a chance to lead his team in the playoffs at this stage in his career has to hurt. I don't doubt that he'll be back next year but that can't ease the frustration for him (or Cardinal fans) this year. I hope Stanton stays healthy, I'd really like to see the Cards make a deep playoff run.

I keep hearing your fans say the drop off to Stanton isn't much? :noidea:

If this guy was good enough to be an NFL starter he wouldn't be a backup on your team. Of course there will be a drop off. Enough to cost you games? That's yet to be determined. It WILL have impact on your defense as well. If you end up punting more it puts your defense out more which tires them out and etc..

Losing your starting QB is normally the worst position you can lose on the team. To say you won't have any drop off means Palmer wasn't that good. At least that's what I'm getting when I hear that.

Next man up has been the theme all year long. Arians certainly knows a thing or two about next man up.

Cards definitely need to find a new backup QB, though. Logan Thomas is a project with potential... not a player you can expect to win this year with.

I expect the Cardinals will sign Dennis Dixon again.. to stick on the dept chart between Stanton and Thomas

"the drop off isn't going to kill us" Pretty simple statement to grasp but apparently you took it the wrong way.

This is coming from the hater who said the Cards where going to go 1-3 over the stretch of games versus Dal, Stl, Det, & Sea.

There won't be much drop off because the offense won't change & Stanton has proven he can run the offense. The offense isn't some sling it around throw it 40+ times type offense that some teams run. Arizona's offense is a ball control offense that doesn't turn the ball over while taking shots down field when the opportunity is there.

Stanton is a smart experienced QB who minimalizes turnovers while being able to run the same offense that Palmer runs. If anything, he is less likely to turn the ball over than Palmer while adding the ability to scramble for first downs.

The only question is can he keep himself healthy.

Do you think Palmer will give any of his extension money back??

Why? He is only guaranteed through 2015. 2016-17 are pay as you go. And 2015 is guaranteed for injury only. So at worst, if he never plays again, they are out the signing bonus which is spread out over multiple seasons.

He should be fine to start the 2015 season. He will be likely throwing during the OTAs in the offseason. This was an ACL injury only. No other damage was found, so this will speed up the recovery time.

Palmer just has really bad luck & this puts a damper on the what has been a good season so far for the Cardinals in 2014. If things turn out well for us, it will almost be like an M. Night Shyamalandingdong movie. With all the unexpected twists & turns.

"What a twist!"

Would you say the Seahawks got fucking lucky Palmer went down? You seem to think that was the case for the Cardinals when Romo went down. Just wondering if it apply's to the Seahawks.

BTW- When did anyone say the Cardinals won't have any drop off? Sting said it won't kill us.

There you go again, making up stories. Kind of like the Seahawks would never lose to any team that started their back up QB (i.e. The Rams).

Funny thing is, if we use a stat that I don't particularly like, QBR, Stanton would be the #10 QB on that list. Right ahead of Palmer.

Don't go there. No matter what you say, the masses are going to dismiss the Cards. Quite frankly, I like it that way.

No shit. Why on earth wouldn't it be? :L Funny how some of you just like to try to make up shit to piss in the wind about. Now, the longer your backup is in the less lucky someone else is, but they are still lucky to not get the starter. On what planet would that not be true?

Detroit is for sure lucky they will get the no-named backup this week.

Bitter and angry fans of an 8-1 team. Funny stuff.

More made up nonsense. Cleared that up more than once, but you insist on making it into something that wasn't said. Sad, but this seems to be zona fans these days. :tsk: You would think that just following a team with an 8-1 record alone would make you happy, but it appears it does not. Only stirring up drama gives you that high.

Real bummer for the Cards. Yes! it can make a difference in the NFC west race. I like Palmer and feel for the misery he is going thru right now. But they still have a very good defense. I am not going to count them out.

Not Good. Stanton can get them to the playoffs if he stays healthy but the schedule remaining isn't easy. Hawks twice and SF, plus the Rams away.

First of all, how did you get the impression any Cardinal fans are bitter and angry? Every post you have about the Cardinals had huge attitude in it, so obviously it is going to generate an aggressive response.

I will say this.. It is a tough day for Cards fans because WE LOST OUR STARTING QB FOR THE YEAR. So if there was a time to be bitter and angry regardless of record, it would be today. However I still have not got that sense from any Card fan posts. There may be bitter responses to your posts because again, they are fill with attitude toward the Cards.

BTW- If you lost Russell Wilson for the year, would you be bitter or angry? Just curious.

Finally- Did you read those links you posted? Because none of them say there won't be a drop-off with Drew Stanton. One says the offense won't change, meaning play calling will stay the same. And the other says "Stanton is a game manager. As long as he can take care of the ball and move us down the field we'll be fine". Were you expecting those posts to help your point or hurt it?
