not in the cesspool today but in earlier news ... "I actually really enjoyed playing for Barry. He had a long and successful career and I hope things work out for him"

/in other Dan hamhuis news ... he has taken the money he is steali ... err ... being paid by the canucks and become part owner of the PG Cougars

Trotz has never had a real scoring forward...ought to be interesting.

I still say he looks like one of those tellers at the bank in Harry Potter

I do think he'll help John Carlson and Karl Alzner but I'm still not sure if they're the top pairing guys they need - they still need to go after someone in trade or free agency to shore things up

A full season of Kuzy should help them too on offense - I think the key eventually will be goaltending - Pekka Rinne and Braden Holtby is a big difference, even though Braden Holtby's had his moments of brilliance

Holtby's actually even got the higher career SV%. Like I said before, the shots allowed are a much much bigger part of the problem. I don't think their goaltending is great, but it's been good enough.

Looking back at the rosters he's had...

Other than the skeletal remains of Peter Forsberg, Jason Arnott and Paul Kariya at one point, the two best players he's had (at forward) are David Legwand and Martin Erat.

Just let that sink in.

This is interesting as well and it seems Caps fans like this on twitter:

I agree if he's going to be up with the big club he shouldn't be on the 4th line gooning it up. But personally I would have sent him back to Plymouth.

Fucked up is the only way to describe that. Is David Poile playing an elaborate multi-year prank?

At least at this point, I don't see Wilson as a top 6 guy. To me he has solid third line forward on his locker room stall in the future.

I agree with this, I don't think he's a top six guy, not from what I've seen so far - he has to be given the time first to even think he can be that guy - and to be a top six guy he would have to drop the gloves less and focus more on offense

I think he could have been more than that. Which is why I would have sent him back to Plymouth to work on developing more of his game and becoming that instead of keeping him up with the big club in the role that they used him in.

He was a 19 year old kid in the NHL. I think he was merely doing what he thought was expected of him in the role that they had him playing. He should have been in Plymouth playing a bigger role, and developing all of his game.

This is true, in his role that's what he needed to do but if they want him to have a bigger role they can't expect him to be doing that too

And I'll repeat again, that is why I think he should have been in Plymouth last year.

But it's not like it's the case that he can't fight at all if he's going to be a top 6 guy. Lucic balances both, and still has room to spear you in the nuts.

Seth Jones has more NHL games in his career than all the rest of Poiles picks in the 2010, 11, 12, and 13 drafts combined.

And he lucked the fuck out with Jones.

Well I think part of it is that the Preds had a much higher draft pick last year than those previous years, so the probability of the guy they get last year in playing those games is higher than what they would have been able to do in previous years

They have some young players who should make a bigger impact next season like Colton Sissons

Seems like they had no first rounders quite often. And they kept picking mid first round.

No firsts in 2011 and 2012(2 2nd's each year)

Colton Sissons and Marek Mazanec who were drafted in 2012 should be fixtures on the roster next season, so it's not all bad

Also they were able to trade Erat for Filip Forsberg, which was like acquiring a top pick

Preds did trade a first for Paul Gaustad, which did help them get to the 2nd round two years ago but still I'd rather have that pick I guess

I looked through the history looking for that "oof - mistake" moment, and it's just not there. Just a whole lot of mediocre picks in mediocre spots. There is no pick that Poile has made where there was some stud there just waiting.

In fact, I found a few picks he made where a solid guy was taken just ahead.

07, he took Blum. Pacioretty was one ahead. 11 he took a goalie named Hellberg, one behind Boone Jenner. Even Legwand. Legwand is a solid player. But still one behind Vinny Lecavalier.

I love looking at drafts. So much luck, so much guessing. Can't really blame Polie for drafting. Some of his trades failed hard though.
