Amazing how much better a goalie plays when he doesn't have a DUI hanging over his head.

Looks like the 93-94 Leafs & the 06-07 Sabres are popping the corks on their champagne bottles.

Hell of a run for the Caps to start the Season.

#1 star: Refs

#2 star: Bulin

#3 star: Refs agian

And normally I am not one to blame Refs, atleast I don't believe I am.

Correct. Joke of a game.

I still like the way we played. Khabibulin played well, but we dominated and the refs gave them 2 goals. They should be ashamed. But whatever, its October.

Edmonton has one fun offensive line to watch, and otherwise, an AHL squad.

I didn't see last night's game, but eloco and ritari don't usually pop off about officiating unless something truly is amiss. You never know what you're going to get when Stephane Auger is one of the officials. He hasn't made the grade to be a playoff referee the last couple of seasons if memory serves, thus he's definitely towards the bottom of the barrel.

Thanks, Dash.

And please note I actually defended Alex Semin - VERY out of character for me. The refs twice called hooking (once on Semin, once on Hamrlik) when they were using their stick to restrain the stick of the other player that might have grazed the glove. I thought those calls were ticky tacky at best, blatantly wrong at worst. But okay, that's how we're calling this one. If you do that, you have to call it like that both ways.

At one point, Ward had his stick held when he and the Oiler were the only players in the zone - no call. OV was hooked much worse than anything Semin/Hamrlik did - no call. Two Oilers (without a Captial within 8 feet) tumbled over each other and on to Vokoun (it was weird) knocking him down - no call and the ref shook his head at Vokoun as if it was his fault guys came barreling into him. Which made me wonder if there was some kind of bias by the refs since they already called tough-as-nails AHL-weathered Matt Hendricks for "diving."

I don't like ref complaining, but this game was just beyond weird and very exceptional to me.

It's just an early regular season game - but a potential record was on the line and it sucked to feel like that was taken away, and not by the opponent.

What Eloco said, Thanks Dash for the validation.

Apparently there were a few more that we both missed Eloco but twitter (writers, not just fans) cought. Atleast 2 could've been called on Mojo that wern't. But still, we had 35 shots and couldn't get more than one goal past Bulin.
