Oh also to answer your question about are those cap numbers the same throughout the contract well not completely but the average for most of those guys I listed is around $18-22 million a year. Heck in 2015 there are 13 guys making over $15 million for the quarterback position so close to half the quarterbacks in the league at least making $15 million by that point. So unless you consider Russell Wilson worse than half the quarterbacks in the league I have a hard time seeing him take $15 million or less per year. I do think he will give a bit of a discount but with the Cap going up a discount for a Quarterback will be in that $20 million range. I mean when average quarterbacks in the league that haven't won a Super Bowl are already getting that you have to think a Super Bowl winning quarterback will get that.

JUst looked at cap hits for QBs next year.

That will change quickly as contracts are redone. If you look at the next year 13 make over $15 million and some clear up to $26 million if I remember right. The ones making that are essentially all but one that has signed a deal within the last year. Pretty much that is the new standard for a franchise quarterback

My biggest worry is that next year the cap get another big bump. That would change the outlook.

That is the projection that was provided with this one being maybe up to 135. That's why we're saying the already nuts QB contracts are going to be unreal soon.

Tell me what Cam Newton , Colin Kaepernick, and Andy Dalton will sign for. 2011 draft, so extensions should be signed this year. Not exactly apples to apples, but it should give us a clue.

a smart GM wouldn't break the bank for Colin or Andy.

Cam $20 (maybe a touch less)
Dalton $15
Kaepernick $13

All three are bad QBs though IMO. I could be low on kaepernick or dalton but cam as the worst of the three is the most hyped, and that breaks the bank.

Well first off I'll say if these guys sign for that kind of money, then I'll be wrong about the kind of money it takes to sign Wilson.

 At saying Cam is the worse of these three.

Dalton may not have a starting job in 2015. Let alone a 15 million dollar per year contract.

I was thinking this myself. He tends to choke in the post season. 3 trips now and no wins. This last one against the Chargers was the worst of the three.

From what I understand with the Cap right now they are expecting it to be at $135 million for this next year and possibly next year see another 10% raise with the new CBS money so we are then talking the Cap being closer to $150 million. Right now top quarterbacks (we will say top 10 Salaries) average 18.9 million which is about 15% of the Cap for those teams. Let's say the Cap is around 148 million for next season as that would be a little less than the 10% they are expecting. The average by then would be 22.2 million for the top 10 quarterbacks. So if your team has a top 10 quarterback that is about what you should expect for them to be paid.

Here is the latest info.

Source: Cap will be $133 million per team

For 2014, each team will have $10 million more to spend than it had a year ago.

Per a league source, the salary cap will be $133 million in 2014. That’s a significant jump from the spending limit of $123 million last year, especially in light of recent increases of only a million or two per year.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the official number will be announced most likely by Monday, and possibly as soon as tomorrow.

In response to recent reports that the cap will be $132 million, we were told it could be a few million higher. In the end, it’s only a million more. Still, it’s a big jump over the $126.3 million projection shared with owners during the 2013 season.

The increase is good news for teams that need cap space, like the Steelers and Cowboys. But it’s bad news for teams that prefer to keep their money in their coffers. The current labor deal requires each team to spend 89 percent of the unadjusted cap, on (for now) a three-year rolling average.

If/when the official cap numbers are released, the various franchise tags also will be set. Under the 2011 labor deal, the franchise tags are tied to a percentage of the cap.

The higher the cap, the greater the tags will be.

$133m this year, $140m in 2015 and $150m in 2016.

LMAO at people saying Flacco would blow up the Ravens' cap situation.

It isn't quite like that gowazzu02. Pretty much it comes down to a number crunch. The NFL and NFLPA came to an agreement that of all the money that the NFL makes in a year the players get a certain percentage for salaries. I can't quite remember what number they settled on but it is not just a number pulled out of a hat. The reason the Cap is expected to explode the next few years is with normal growth of the NFL plus the CBS deal that they just made the NFL will be increasing their money big time.

I assume the main driving force behind the cap number is revenue. But I am more than willing to bet that the NFLPA, namely DeMaurice Smith, is doing some shady deals to pump up the numbers this season. After this season, the head of the NFLPA is up for grabs & S Smith is going to be challenged by some strong candidates like Sean Gilbert. So he is likely trying to make himself look better anyway he can & maybe artificially inflating the cap number this season.

Next season is a different story. In 2015 the new TV revenue starts coming in & the raise in the cap was expected to at least $8-10 mil. But with 2014 increase being so high, who knows how much more the 2015 bump will be.
