According to the latest reports the cap will have an unexpected bump to 130 million. That is an extra 7 million above the previous 123 million.

Good news for the Seahawks. It makes bringing Bennett and others back a higher possibility.

Good news indeed. I think this helps teams like the Hawks and Niners who are loaded the most. We should be able to keep our talent and maybe pick up a bargain vet or two looking for a ring.

Talk about the rich get richer, and with that I mean the Seahawks. This should most importantly clear the path for both Thomas & Sherman to get deals. It's easy to say Bennett, but with those other two getting max deals this $7mill difference may very well get eaten up before Bennett makes his demands. Bennett stick around based off of restructured contracts or released players, but not solely from this cap addition.

Not sure this helps any team over another. Teams with a ton of cap space have just that much more to bring in FA help or sign young players to long contracts. Teams with little cap space gives them some cap relief and ability to re-sign some of their own players possibly. So every team just got an advantage which in turn means nobody got an advantage.

It's not an advantage over other teams, just that it appears that it may be easier to extend guys or to bring back players. Fans on here have been speculating more on who's leaving than who's staying, so a few extra million means that it'll make it easier to bring back key pieces (and yes bring in parts to fill holes) without having to cut players.

no, it helps those who are mired in dead money the most. Teams like Seattle that have several high profile players looking for new salaries will be upping their asking price proportionally to the new cap. So any team with those big names are going to be giving all of that extra away in new higher contracts.

You are right that it's not an advantage over other teams. Thats a no brainer seeing as every team gets the same cap. The true advantage is for a team like Seattle getting that extra bump in cap to sign top flight talent that they might have lost had the bump been on par as last years. This helps the Hawks ( Super bowl CHAMPIONS ) keep some talent that they might have lost. So in that way it help them and hurts the rest of the league :usa2: :first:

Free agents around the league just yelled out Yaaa! 224 extra million dollars for teams to spend. I still think it will help the Seahawks, but it may also up the price for those they are hoping to resign.

Remember prior to the SB win the poll most players wish to play for is coach Carroll, that may not seem like too much when talking money but for some players a few 100k here and there less to play for Carroll and now a SB under the belt will be to our advantage and very much so in the FA market down the line.

Seattle is in a good position. Yah other teams get more cap to bring in free agents, but you build through the draft, not free agents that are not loyal to your team looking to get a paycheck. You think any player is going to get a huge payday, go to Tampa and play his heart out? Get real.

Seattle's team is stacked at the moment on D, so it allows us to retain all those players while still possibly being able to target FA and sign our picks. We don't have a 3rd this year so that actually helps in total draft cost... and we have quite a few expendable players that are not much in terms of dead cap hits in future years (Bryant/Rice/Miller) along with free agents that are marginal at best.

This helps Seattle more than other teams for a couple of reasons. First off, we are already in the best position of having the most talented roster and this will help us maintain that advantage. Secondly, and more importantly, is the fact that, while every team will be paid 7 million dollars more next year, our team won't have any of that 7 mil going to state income taxes while most other teams will.WINNING!

When we have bennett, sherman, and thomas all looking for contracts in this off season their agents are going to know that the ceiling for each position is also going up and will demand most of that.

I still contend that teams sitting on dead money probably get the most out of it. They are that much closer to being able to pay players that can actually help them now.

Still, it is probably a team by team thing where some will spend it well and others won't. In other words, more of the same just a bit more of it.

Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, but this actually isn't that big a deal the more I think about it. When discussing the salary cap the last few weeks, it was done with the estimated salary cap going up to $129 million. So, if the cap is actually at $130 million, then doesn't that just mean that Seattle has $1 million more than was originally anticipated?

If so, it really isn't gonna have that big an impact on who can be re-signed.

Great news. All teams benefit, but that really helps to team like the Hawks that are trying to keep the SB window open.

I'm confused as to what you mean by dead money I guess.

I'm confused as to what you mean by dead money I guess.

When a team pro rates the bonus money they pay a player, but cuts him before all that money is used against the cap, the bonus money is still used against the cap. Depending on when he is cut depends on when the money counts against the cap. If the player is cut before June 1, the entire remaining balance of the dead money is counted against that year's cap. If the player is cut after June 1, then only one season of dead money is used against that year's cap and the rest is applied to the next season's.

Sidney Rice has a bonus cap # of $1.2 million for this year and next. If he is cut before June 1st, then the Seahawks will have the entire total of $2.4 million count against this year's cap, which amounts to a cap savings for this year for Rice of $7.3 million, and next year of $10.2 million. If the Hawks wait until after June 1st, then they will owe just the $1.2 this year, and the same next year, saving them $8.5 million on the cap this year and $9 million on the cap next year.

As it stands right now, Seattle has less than $1 million in dead money for 2014, but with the expect cuts that are coming, that number will ballon significantly.

This is pretty much my thought on it. Agents know a couple of things here that gives them quite a bit of power in the negotiating room. 1st with the Cap being higher than most thought that means that contracts should go up especially for the top players at their positions such as Thomas and Sherman. So that means since the old number for top salary for Corner was $13 million most likely that now goes up to $15 million. For Safety it might go from $8.5 million to now $10 million. This is just like inflation. When the money goes up so does the salaries for the players.

2nd Agents know there is a good chance the Salary Cap is going to have another big jump in the next year or two with the new CBS deal coming into play. So again with knowing that Agents can see dollar signs like crazy for their players. We are going to see a huge jump in top salaries at quite a few positions. So honestly as good as it looks that you can resign your top talent you have to factor in prices just went up for each of them. Even the "Hometown Discount" price just went up. For the Corner position $13 million now looks like the hometown discount instead of say $10-12 million.
