Does Oberg suck, or what's his deal?

Higgins won't score 25, but he's a guy who can play in all situations. He was very irritating at the beginning of the year because he fails on a lot of scoring chances, but as the year went on, he basically played in all situations. Including our 2nd line PK unit...our PK is one of the best in the league, and he played a part.

3rd round pick in this deal is 2013 pick. I'm assuming this is because Higgins is hurt, and he's probably just a rental, at the end of the day.

you will like Oberg (next year maybe). he is a very mobile defenseman, who moves the puck very well.
only played a couple of games with the big club this year, but he was a fairly prized prospect.

won't hit much, but decent positionally and adds nicely to the offense

thanks for the Higgins info.

imo, Oberg is pretty one dimensional and his offensive talents arent to the level that he will be missed ... seemed to me like he struggled with the first pass and his decision making coming out of his end ... and of course Chris Tanev just blistered by him on the canucks depth chart so he became expendable ... did not stand out at all in the prospects tournament in preseason but still young and needs to fill out though

another thing deserves mentioning ... have a look at his contract and you almost do a spit-take

1.56 mill cap hit on an entry level??? Hes the Panthers highest salary dman right now even ahead of Kulikov, who is light years ahead of Oberg in terms of development ... while it is a 2 way it still seems a bit wacky ... Gillis probably overpaid to get him to come out of university early

other than the salary  i think you are being a little harsh on him.
yes, he looked a tad lost at times, but he has 4 NHL games under his belt.
yes, Tanev passed him on the depth chart, but tanev came from outta no where.
I thought Oberg for the most part looked pretty good, and made strong passes.
a very good skater, too (at 165lbs, he's got to be!)

and tanev has 17 games under his belt ... not much difference .... i just compare the 2 and Tanev is smooth and his decision making is already NHL calibre (although his play has declined lately ... probably because the increased ice-time due to injury)
