Band of Brothers
A Dreamer...trying to find my way home for dinner
Candlestick wrappers
Get your hotdogs the vendor yells
As I sit down to eat a hot dog
A gust of wind takes my wrapper into flight
like the feather in the movie Forest Gump
I watch it soar into the windy Stick night
along with about 20 more from other parts
of the park
Half way through my hot dog I watch my wrapper fly
passed second base as it heads to the fence
All the wrappers twist and dive like seagulls looking for the lost hot dogs
once wrapped by them
A brown paper bag makes an entrance like James Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy
It fills with air and flies to the top of the heap
The bag reaches the outfield first and sticks to the cyclone fence in left
The rest of the dancing wrappers follow
and a form of baseball art sticks to my viewing background
I finish my hotdog and laugh as the left fielders cap follows to stick against the fence
like the last stroke of a painting
and in some way I feel like I contributed to a piece of baseball art
Some might have seen it as garbage wrappers against a fence
but to me it was entertainment and a form of free forming art
I will never forget those nights when those wrappers took flight
