Currently the Knicks stand 3 games out of the final playoff spot, trailing the Hawks. Can they catch the them? It will prove difficult even with Atlanta struggling.
Atlanta 27-35 (20 games left)
Home: 13 games
Away: 7 games
+.500 teams: 10 games
-.500 teams:10 games
New York 26-40 (16 games left)
Home: 7 games
Away: 9 games (including a late 5 game west coast swing)
+.500 teams: 10 games
-.500 teams: 6 games
Head-to-Head: Season series tied at 2 wins each
The Knicks need to make up 5 games in the loss column. With Atlanta still having 4 more games to play than the Knicks, some ground could be made up there with Atlanta losses. The Knicks clearly have the tougher schedule with more away games, that 5 game west coast swing, and a higher percentage of games against +.500 teams.
I don't think the Knicks will make it. Their current 5 game win streak was preceded by a 7 game losing streak. The current 5 game win streak has come against primarily weak opponents. There's just too much for the Knicks to overcome.
