Yep I like the deal and I highly doubt Pirate fans will ever miss Dilson Herrera.

As for the 40 -man Russ Canzler can be dropped and Snider can be moved to the 60 day DL.

It's a good deal. Herrera would've been blocked by the eventual transition of Hanson moving over to 2B. Alen doesn't have what it takes defensively to stick at SS, IMO.

I don't like giving up Herrera, he is the type of guy who can make you look dumb in three years for trading him, but he could also flame out, the deal seems fair.

I know exactly what you mean. If the guy finds some plate discipline he could be a good ball play but 110 k's at low A doesn't translate well to the big leagues. I wish him the best and i hope this trade sparks a little run for the bucs.

Byrd is having a good season, so hopefully he carries that production into our lineup. Buck's a solid veteran backstop who can spell Martin without costing us too much in terms of performance, and allows us to get Sanchez regular reps in AAA again. I'm not too torn up about losing Herrera. He's an interesting talent, but he's a good bit of time from the Majors. I like the deal.

Small second baseman with some power. Has hit well in the minors up until this year. Has a better than average shot at being a major league player. Could possibly even move back to SS.

I for one hate this trade, but mostly for personal reasons.

Also, is super young for his level, so he has a lot of upside. Not sure I agree he can move back to SS, I heard the arm isn't good, I think he is a second basemen long term.

Pirates 'have their eyes on' Justin Morneau

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Pirates "have their eyes on" the Twins' Justin Morneau.

The Pirates acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck from the Mets on Tuesday and are now looking to beef up their roster even further as they battle the Cardinals and Reds in the National League Central standings. Morneau has cleared waivers, so he's eligible to be traded to any team. The 32-year-old first baseman has hit .263/.321/.424 with 15 home runs and 72 home runs in 124 games this season.

I agree we need some bats. The last 2 games vs the Giants was alarming. I feel better now because we add some bats and even a backup catcher.

Jones has been especially brutal lately. We cannot put him in the lineup and expect him to produce right now. Sanchez is about useless against lefties, so Morneau would fill the left-hand-hitting side of that platoon a lot better right now.

But like I said, it has to cost us nothing to be worth it.

You are so right about Jones as a matter of fact I was going to mention Jones. You are dead on on Sanchez. He's another one in my dog house.
