Gives us a chance to get healthy, but also an interruption to our momentum. We will need Burfict and Marvin Jones to give us a better shot at the Pats. Pats don't look too sharp yet, but they have a 30+ game home winning streak vs AFC teams, so it's a daunting task we face in our next game. Pats will be coming off a Monday nighter, so that is in our favor. I'm sure the Pats will be focused and ready for us though, since we beat them at home last year and broke Brady's td pass streak.

The NFL really needs to do away with bye's this early in the season.

What do you think about byes being spread over just three or four weeks in the middle of the season? Maybe ten byes on week eight, twelve on week nine, and the other ten on week ten.

I think they should figure a way to use the byes to avoid the short weeks for Thursday night football. I'm not sure if they could be equitable for every team though -- That's probably why they don't do it too much.

Just looked up the Bengals' record coming off a bye under ML. It's not nearly as bad as I thought. 4-6-1 s/u and 5-6 ats. Notable is the last six years the straight up record is 3-2-1 and the record ats is 4-2......apparently Marvin has started to figure out handling the bye weeks. The win in Seattle in 2011 came off the bye. Gives us some hope, anyway.....

The problem is Marvin's record in prime time games.

I am a fan of the BYE, this week. We need to get some guys healthy. I am not interested in going to NE with more than a handful of starters limping into the game or out altogether.

This was loss two I predicted coming into the season, loss 1, being the game in Baltimore week 1. We were able to come away with one there.

I also think NE is vulnerable, even at home this year. They do not look like the same team I am used to seeing. I think it is because Brady just hasn't been that impressive this year so far, Gronk is starting to look a little average after all t he injuries, and their best offensive weapon is Edelman.

They have very good talent on defense though, and it will be a challenge to go up there and put points on the board.

We will miss Eifert, but the fact we are getting Jones back, getting AJ two weeks healthier, our two headed run monster, and two weeks to prepare, even though it is prime time in NE. I am feeling a little better about this game than before the season started.

Yeah, Belicheat is a big problem, but last year our defense showed they could handle Brady. The best thing about this situation is nobody expects the Bengals to go into New England and win, hell, 30+ AFC teams before us have failed in this situation. So they should go in loose and take their best shot.

Absolutely they should be spread out within a short span of a few weeks. It takes away any sort of competitive edge there may be. Players become more and more worn down as the season progresses. A bye in Week 12 is great to rest up for the stretch run. Yet, here we are stuck with a bye in Week 4. It's silly.

The Bengals need the bye week this week fan or not. It comes at a great time rather have our defense at full strength to face pretty boy.

DON'T MESS WITH THE DARK LORD!!

Yeah, this was not a game I counted on us winning this year. However, the Bengals are looking pretty good right now, and while NE has not been terrible, they have looked capable of being beat. That home record against AFC teams is incredible though. Large hurdle for the Bengals indeed.

Considering Cincy is much better than Oakland who gave the Pats too close of a game Sunday, you certainly should be encouraged given the offensive struggles of the Pats so far.

Unfortunately, there are 13 games left. More injuries will happen. More players will get nicked up. More players will get worn down as the playoffs approach. In the short term, it may seem like a good thing, but in the long run, a very early bye does little good.

I think you are right about that. Ideally we would have had it later in the season with less injuries to start the season. Hopefully later in the season we are not fighting lots of injury bugs, but rather just nicks and bruises.

As of right now though, I think it is advantageous to get the bye, get some guys healed and then not have to take a break later in the season, hopefully after we get on a roll again. Maintain that momentum, and get lucky on the injury front. I think we stand a much better chance of beating NE in NE with a healthy Burfict, AJ Green (who was limping a bit last week as well), get Marvin Jones back and let those lines rest before hand.

Ideally, you are right though, we would have had our bye week in week 9, and we wouldn't have started with so many injuries to key players.

Why, besides TV money, doesn't the league just play eight weeks, then everyone has the bye, then finish the season from there. The only possible reason something that logical doesn't happen is greed.

If you take that stand point, then why doesn't the league just get rid of the BYE altogether, so they don't lose revenue for a week? They can argue, players still have practice and work during that extra week, so what is the difference? It isn't like you are screwing one team over another in that respect either, because no one gets a bye, so all teams deal with the same issues.

There is no way the league would just shut down for an entire week. You are right, it does have to deal with greed, because 17 weeks of generating revenue for the tv contracts is better business, because they can negotiate higher deals, plus it does give every team at least one week for a blow.

It is what it is. I think it is good every team gets a bye.

I think with 32 NFL teams though it would be best to have 4 weeks (so it is divisable by 32 teams) during weeks 8, 9, 10, 11 (8 teams per week do not play). This way there is not much of an advantage for any of the teams, any of those weeks would be more adventageous for a BYE for any team as it comes in the middle of the season, it is reduced to a 4 week period, all revenue can still be made over a 17 week season.

Ideally, that is how the league would do it. Just that it probably will not happen.
