interesting side note: shero drafted Hamhuis. not that it would have a huge effect on things, but intriguing nonetheless.

Poille drafted Hamhuis in 2001... if you really want an interesting side note, Hamhuis was born in Smithers, Ontario.

Penguin fans, I hope you know what you're getting into.

From Real_ESPNLeBrun on twitter

Hamhuis agent Wade Arnott: "We did not present a framework for a contract to Flyers at any point, nor indicate any salary demands."

what i guess gives me some sort of solace is that i just can't imagine ray making this trade with out knowing something he could offer that homer couldn't. the only thing that I can see (which doesn't mean much, because we miss a lot) is more playing time up top, pk, etc. i'd say a better chance at the cup, but unless philly goes with leighton all year, they're certainly in the mix ;) i hope they can sign him reasonably. i must say it's odd that the philly talks really went no where. it's like he had already made his mind up that he didn't want to be there. who knows...time will tell. i'll be happy if we sign him though, he's the exact type of dman we need.

Pitt has some Youngin's? I thought they gave up every draft pick and farm player for Maid Marian?

And here I was thinking I can try out and walk on easily for the Wilkes Barre Scranton Pens...

I highly doubt Hamhuis signs for under 4.5M.

Agreed. I read that he wanted at least $4.5 to be the Flyers 3-4. He will want at least that as I am sure he believes he will have a larger role with the Pens. Good luck with that.:D

Posted this on the Flyers forum. I guess I'll contribute to this thread too.

The Pens need a defenseman that is solid defensively. That's exactly what Hamhuis is. James Mirtle ranked him the #9 best UFA after the season, making him the sixth best available right now after some signings. He's what Pittsburgh needs.

The Pens have the cap room to sign him. They can spend 6.5 million on Hamhuis and Leopold/Eaton, 875k on a 6th/7th defenseman, and have nearly $5.5 million left for a pair of wings. Get one for $3 million and another for $2 million.

i am pretty sure hamhuis just wants to test the open market. if he joined the flyers he would have been part of possibly the best defense in the nhl. i guess he would rather be a 1-2 defense on a weak defensive team. i am not talking about the pens though. i just think he wants to go to free agency. just annoying he did not tell the flyers until the day of the draft.
