I'm not too crazy about overpaying for Hamhuis either. any word on what the flyers got for him from the pens?

3rd rounder. the flyers basically got a 3rd and 7th rounder for parent. he complained he would not get enough minutes on the flyers. he was starting to annoy me.

lol no chance he signs for less than 4.5

Just my honest opinion and stone cold fact ;)

now all the philly fans can say what their fears were and HOPE they come true, right?? :) hypothetically, lets say Dan signs for 4/4...would it sting a bit then? i see him going over 4.

meh. i tried to convince myself that he was ok at 4 mil. me and awaz were talking about it before it happened and he said he put him down at 4 mil. i said, 4 mil are you kidding?

for instance, pronger will make less than 5 mil next year. no way hamhuis deserves that money. i seriously think he is worth 3. i thought he would get 3.5 in free agency where i really think he is going and will get 4.5.

i think 4 is more then he is worth although i could have lived with it. i still think he wanted to play near where he grew up or whatever in western canada. if he did not want to go to the flyers because of the area then that is not good for the pens. if it really was about the minutes then i think you could get him. i just think that was an excuse though.

maybe the fact that he'll basically be in our top 2 will entice him to sign more. i dunno. sources say the pens are gonna start with brooks orpik type money (3.5-3.75) which is what he should sign for (what he's worth anyway) and for 5-6 years. we'll see...

yea i agree with what you are saying. i seriously think this poor free agent class is making him cost more which could be bad down the road.

completely agree...it's really a factor of the cap. the issue is obvious that guys are getting ridiculous contracts. they need to cut down the loophole thing with the extreme lengths, etc. it's already been seen with the forwards (pleck and marleau) getting overpaid...heck, the ONLY position that won't most likely (you lucky SOB) is the goalies. those...there are plenty of.

I highly doubt Hamhuis signs for under 4.5M.

interesting side note: shero drafted Hamhuis. not that it would have a huge effect on things, but intriguing nonetheless.

yea it is tough with the cap and teams that can not afford to overpay because there will always be those low budget team who just want a guy they can afford and will overpay for them.

when you have these 3-4 defenseman asking for 1-2 money there is a problem. i think gonchar made like 5 mil last year right? and he could run a powerplay and everything. why does hamhuis think he should get that much?

they drafted him? i thought nashville did. that is interesting.

yeah, it was nashville, but 2001 and Shero was the GM there. he likes a lot of his former guys (eaton and a few others have come through the pens system in time as well). so at the very least shero is on good terms with Dan it would seem.
