The Blue Jays have agreed to acquire star lefty David Price from the Tigers, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports on Twitter. The marquee piece coming in return is top Blue Jays prospect Daniel Norris, Heyman adds. Outfielder Anthony Alford is “likely” included as well, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. As always, the deal is pending medicals.

So encouraging to see Toronto add Tulo and Price and the O's will probably add an additional bench player....smh

Ever since the DD news to Toronto, can't say that I trust him. We lose out on Cruz & Markakis and add virtually no one of any help and now, no added help during the trade deadline. Stars like Jones and Manny will walk if this remains the case when their time is up. Can't say I blame them either...

Anyone think DD had anything to do with the Tulo or Price trades ;)

The Yankees are set to acquire outfielder Dustin Ackley from the Mariners, reports the YES Network’s Jack Curry (AllTwitterlinks). Outfield prospect Ramon Flores is headed to Seattle, as will right-hander Jose Ramirez, according to Curry. Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News had previously connected the Yankees to Ackley.

it does get hard to believe that this front office is really putting their best foot forward when our competition is willing to show they will do what it takes to try and get a championship and we just sit on our thumbs and watch.

Hence the "rebuilding since Angelos" saying... because the owner is ultimately the root of the problem. And on a side note, I think the Orioles can probably get better even without a trade if the organization is willing to make a few "addition by subtraction" moves. For example:
  • Our outfielders not named Adam Jones have a net contribution of +0.4 WAR. So, the team might as well dump most of them and play Triple-A call-ups for the rest of the reason instead.

  • With Gonzalez starting to fall back to earth (5.75 ERA in June / 5.00 ERA in July), and Norris apparently failing at the mop-up pitcher role as well, they might as well DFA Norris and call up Wright or Wilson... so that the weakest starter can be sent to the bullpen if needed.
(There is very little downside to to this approach other than losing money, which is going to happen anyway since the contracts are guaranteed. Sure, there's a chance that the DFA'ed player could end up playing for another team... but that's a minor risk for 4A players, especially those we could live with or without next year anyway.)

Roch says we are in on Parra from the Brewers, who is a FA at the end of the season and Revere from the Phillies, who is under team control until 2018. Both guys bat left and can play all 3 OF positions.

Im not sure how that helps Wright has already been abused this season in the Majors. If we had better players in our minor league rosters than what we already field than Buck has already failed us.

Point taken on Mike Wright... although he did pitch 4 straight quality starts since returning to Norfolk. And really, you could replace his name with that of several other candidates.

My point was simply this: When you're only getting replacement-level performance out of certain players on the MLB team, there is a good chance that someone on the Triple-A roster would be able to perform better from random variance alone (even if only in short stints).

The Orioles are looking at a pair of left-handed hitting outfielders in Gerardo Parra of the Brewers and Ben Revere of the Phillies, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports. The club was talking about a deal involving minor league hurler Zach Davies (in addition to other pieces).

Confirming and building on that report, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says Baltimore is indeed pursuing talks on both Parra and Revere (Twitter links). Baltimore is also working on a deal with the Cubs involving reliever Tommy Hunter, per the report. The team would look to save some cash (around $1.5MM) while adding a minor leaguer from Chicago.

The O’s would presumably put some of the savings achieved on Hunter, should that deal come to fruition, towards a new outfielder. Parra ($6.24MM annual salary) and Revere ($4.1MM) would both cost Baltimore a fairly tidy sum to field the rest of the way, in addition to whatever the acquisition cost would be from their respective clubs. Both are different players who represent different kinds of assets: Parra is a better defender with more pop (particularly this year), and is a pure rental, while Revere is a singles hitter with outstanding speed who can be controlled for two more seasons.

The Orioles are “closing in” on a deal for Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. Prospect Zach Davies is expected to be the return to Milwaukee. Nathan Bishop of Lookout Landing suggested just this scenario could be in the works on Twitter yesterday.

The Blue Jays are talking with the Phillies about a potential Ben Revere trade, and talks between the two sides are “heating up”

The Cubs and Blue Jays also remain in the mix for Gallardo,

11:03am: The Orioles are still in the mix for Revere, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, who adds that one source said it’s “50-50″ when it comes to Revere and the O’s.

10:50am: ESPN’s Buster Olney now reports that the Blue Jays aren’t interested in Revere at the Phillies’ current asking price (Twitter links). The Phillies are discussing Revere with a different club, per Olney.

  • The Tigers‘ asking price on Cespedes is currently high, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, with the belief being that Detroit would ask the Orioles for Kevin Gausman in return. The Orioles, reportedly, are loath to part with the former No. 4 overall pick.

NO WAY we should give up Gausman for 2 months of Cespedes. Rather they just sign him in the offseason.
