• The Tigers‘ asking price on Cespedes is currently high, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, with the belief being that Detroit would ask the Orioles for Kevin Gausman in return. The Orioles, reportedly, are loath to part with the former No. 4 overall pick.

NO WAY we should give up Gausman for 2 months of Cespedes. Rather they just sign him in the offseason.

As much as I am NOT high on Gausman, there is no way in hell I'd give him up for a 2-month rental unless Cespedes signs an extension the same day.

Orioles recalled RHP Mychal Givens from Double-A Bowie. He's taking Bud Norris' spot on the roster. Givens has made just one appearance with the O's this season but boasts a 1.79 ERA with 77 strikeouts over 55 1/3 frames at Bowie.

That means someone else is being cut for Parra.

Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com reports that the Mets have acquired Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers.

Phillies acquired RHP Alberto Tirado and RHP Jimmy Cordero from the Blue Jays for OF Ben Revere.

The Phillies are getting a couple of really hard throwers here, but both are strictly bullpen guys. Tirado has a 3.23 ERA and a 61/35 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings as an A-ball reliever. Cordero has a 2.70 ERA in 50 innings of relief between high-A and Double-A. Tirado has the better chance of developing into a late-game guy in time.


Seems like we could of matched that.

So here's the net effect of all trade deadline transactions:

Added to organization: Gerardo Parra, Junior Lake (to AAA)
Traded away: Zach Davies, Tommy Hunter
DFA'ed: Travis Snider, Bud Norris
Called up: Mychal Givens, Mike Wright

Practically speaking, that's one minor upgrade for the outfield plus a couple "addition by subtraction" moves on the pitching side. Looks fairly typical for the Orioles organization in recent years, it seems...

Looks like the earlier report was wrong... it's actually Parmelee who's losing his roster spot to Parra. I guess it doesn't really matter either way... neither of them was producing in July.

Yikes... Chen is clearly having an off day. And to add insult to injury, we're behind in what's essentially a #1 vs. #5 match-up (in terms of the opposing starters' relative ranking in their team, that is).

If I were Buck Showalter, I'd consider putting in Wright since his last start was 5 days ago...

I'm guessing that with Givens and Wright called up and Parra showing up tonight, another outfielder needed to be sent down along with Snider. So I guess now it'll be Reimold and Lough sharing either left or right field.

Wasn't too bad of a deadline as we didn't give up half the farm. Don't know a lot about Lake and hope he doesn't end up being an AAAA guy.

Ouch... 6 earned runs (and probably still counting unless Wright can prevent that number from increasing to 7). You have to go back to August 2013 to find a worse start by Chen.
