Smart move, imo. He's still got some skills, but he wasn't a $5 million per year RB any more.

I still thought he had some game left and the net savings here isn't much at all.

For those of you that defend LewAAnd perhaps you can explain to me why you restructure the contract of a guy who one year later you are cutting and thanks to that you cost yourself $1.55m in additional savings you would otherwise have with this cut? The dude is clueless.

Reggie Bush was released this afternoon.

Thoughts?
Thumbs up just for the thread title. And even though a zero factor, your third string QB has moved the Lions from "don't care" to my second favorite team. Good luck next year guys.

The only reason I was thinking he would have been kept was continuity and hopeful he'd return to form next year like how he played/performed in 2013. I 1000% agree with Dr.Evil-er on his statement above (re-structure late last year and now he's gone). It's another hole to fill and we already have 4 gaping holes to fill in two DT's and a LG plus a #2 CB. ADD a quality RB to that list. and yet people seem to think that tagging Suh is still a viable option for this team. Take a good look at that roster, starters first, then scroll down and look at possible back-ups should we run into another injury riddled season. We had few injuries to deal with in 2013. The draft can't be our savior for all the holes needed to fill.

Granted FA hasn't even begun yet but damn I'm not liking the feeling I'm getting should the ass-hat twins tag SUH. It would be the absolute worst move they could make. Extend Suh or let him walk, period.

Hello Gurley, if you're even available, which I highly doubt he'll be.

Well, a new RB looms. Watch out for pick 23.

Bush cut, Cooter upset....

My thread title if I could have started it.

This is paving the way to draft a RB. Mayhew loves his skill players and Caldwell really wants a ball control offense. I think it would be a bigger surprise if the Lions didn't draft a RB in the first 2 rounds.

Sometimes I think the Lions administration are just clueless boobs! Reworking deals and then cutting guys....don't forget Houston! Or signing guys to deals then drafting another player at the same position...Ebron and Pettigrew. You can't keep wasting salary and adding dead space and think you can have depth.

My guess is that they restructured thinking he was finally staying healthy after 3 straight seasons of over 14 games played all while putting up good numbers.

Maybe they saw some medical reports after all of his injuries this year and didn't think he was worth the risk?

That's my take. Please don't yell.

We currently have the slowest backfield in the NFL.

I can appreciate a full bush as much as anyone who went through puberty in the 70s, but I think the Lions are better off bushless. We save almost 2 mil. Still need more if we are going to resign Suh.

I do not think it means a RB early in the draft though, but it certainly brings it into play. I would rather build the O-line myself, but I could live with a RB. O-line would be easier to do in FA then RB. Even though the RB FAs are plenty, we could not afford the good ones.

In a Q&A session with Dave Birkett, he was asked how the Lions could keep Tulloch and Jones and tag Suh. He said all the Lions had to do was cut bush and restructure Calvin.

Hopefully, that's not what the Lions would do. Those 2 moves could free up $11 mil. If they cut Jones and Tulloch, and restructure Stafford it would free up $14 mil. And by restructuring Stafford you add to his cap hits the next 2 years. With Calvin you add to the next 5.
