Well I am not surprised about 2 things in this article:
1. He is considering retiring after this season. It will be a shame if he puts up good numbers and could contribute another season for the Pirates.

2. He has not been in talks with the Pirates about a new deal. Yeah we all know they won't want to pay him after this season.

Whatever happens with Burnett, I think it's kind of neat that he wants to stay with the Pirates if he decides to continue pitching beyond 2013.

In my view, Burnett has contributed much value to the Pirates, both on the field and off. However, he's at an age where decline certainly is possible..... but if he's able to sustain good performance through the 2013 season, I would not be opposed to an extension for a year or two.

As you imply, it comes down to what the Pirates would offer..... and what Burnett would be willing to accept. A match seems unlikely, IMO.

if the pirates have a good year, he will give a big hometown discount to help them get to the playoffs. if they are terrible this year, he will probably want more money and no match will happen.

IF hes healthy and productive in July, imo give him a solid offer 2yr 25 mill or so.

Hes worth that and I know people hate 'veteranosity', but I want a veteran pitcher and catcher on this team when Tallion and Cole show up in Pittsburgh.
