James Mirtle sums it up...and it taint pretty.

The majority of teams have locked up their young stars for the long term, with 16 of the top 20 scorers in the NHL this season all still playing with the team that drafted them.

One-quarter of the Leafs’ cap space, meanwhile, is dedicated to the early July signings of Komisarek, François Beauchemin, Armstrong, Lebda and Orr, who have a combined five goals this season.

how does he fix that mess ... the mess he has created

/as an aside i read this on the weekend ... if we didnt know it already , Brian Burke is a stubborn bastard

SCENE & HEARD: North Vancouver artist Glen Green assumed his days working with the Vancouver Canucks were over when GM Brian Burke accused him of being a self-serving publicity hound, or words to that effect.

Green had submitted a design for a Canucks' third jersey and Burke went, uh, Burke-listic when he read a one-line mention of it in this space before an official team announcement. Green was suddenly on the outside looking in, despite the fact he had never spoken a word about his pending deal with the hockey club. The leak came from a third party, a fact Burke refused to believe.

As crushed as he was, Green went on to bigger things. Much bigger. Three years leading up to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, he was commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to design 12 Canadian circulation 25-cent pieces with artwork showing 10 Olympic and two Paralympic athletes. Today there are 264 million coins in circulation, 22 million from each sport.

With Burke now a distant nightmarish memory in the life and times of the awesomely talented artist who still works out of his original studio on the North Shore, Green was thrilled to hear from the Canucks before this season. They've hired him to produce the portraits of the four players being honoured this year in the Canucks Ring of Honour ceremonies as part of the team's 40th anniversary.

The Orland Kurtenbach and Kirk McLean renderings have been publicly presented, with the remaining subjects set for presentation on Jan. 24 and March 14. "I have signed a confidentiality agreement as to the identity of the other two," Green says. "Whether Mr. Burke believes it or not, I can keep a secret." Check out www.greatsportsart.comfor more of Green's outstanding work.

It was so funny seeing all the Leafs fans in the beginning of the season chanting "The Leafs are back! "Canada's Team" is back!", LMAO! I love it.

I read somewhere that since Stempniak was traded, he's scored more goals than Phil Kessel.

Signing Clarke MacArthur, the team’s leading scorer, for just $1.1-million (U.S.) in late August was also a savvy move.

This should have been listed under "The Bad". It says right there in the sentence that Clarke MacArthur is the leading scoring. How is that good? On the flipside, how does Clarke like Lebda's brand new ride, house...

I'm still trying to figure out Phaneuf. At first I thought the Leafs raped the Flames (best player in the deal), now I'm not so sure. He's got 2 goals and 14 points in 37 games as a Leaf. That's on pace for a 4 goal, 30 point season from a $6.5 mil offensive stud captain. Didn't he used to be really fucking good?

A couple years ago. I don't know exactly how many seconds that comes out to be, sloppy or not...

Yes, but then he thought he had learned all that he needed to know, and decided to stop working on improving his defensive game.

Just to add AJ, the only thing that bummed me out about the Phaneuf trade was the timing (i.e. I wish Sutter would have waited until the off-season when all 30 teams had cap space instead of a few and more teams might have brought offers to the table).

/Can't believe Stajan is already back in the lineup, I thought he was going to be on the shelf for a long time. Hagman scored a nice goal last night, he's an underrated player in my opinion.

they didnt nickname him 210 for nothing

once again when the trade happened ... Damien Cox and alot of TO media thought the trade was the second coming of Babe Ruth to the yankees but thats a tough take to have when you dont stay up past 10pm eastern

building a team around 210 and Phil Kessel ... yikes!!!
