Well we don't know yet. Anything can happen in the playoffs if they keep playing well. I think they're a TORP and a reliable bullpen guy or 2 away from being a true contender.

I respectfully, but totally, disagree.

You think our starters are going to pitch this well the entire season? Really? And as you mentioned, our BP sucks.

We've got a rookie at 2nd, a "please someone take this albatross contract off our hands" SS, an aging/injured and range limited 3rd baseman, and if history tells us anything, it's only a matter of time for Moreland to fold tent, either due to injury or just slump, at 1st.

And I haven't even mentioned our OF or catching inadequacies.

I love what we've been able to accomplish so far. But it's all gonna come crashing down at some point me thinks.

This team has scored well mostly, I think they're a few holes in the infield yes but everyone has a few holes in there lineup usually. I still think they can use another 2B too. I think once beltre comes back I think your answer at 3rd will be answered. I guess we will see what happens.

I'm not giving up the future on the off chance we might be able to contend in a year they weren't supposed to anyways.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this past month of baseball. First time we have seen signs of life from this team since Wash got fired. However, I must emphasize the last sentence of your post. I was dreading this upcoming week before DDS went down. I think it's going to suck even more now. Kershaw, Greinke, Sale, Rodon, and Anderson for good measure in the next 7 days. This line up is going to struggle. The blue jays have not cooled off and they're on the schedule soon, the Orioles are also playing well. I'd like to be optimistic about this team, but with no Hamilton, Beltre, DDS, Perez, Darvish, and Holland ( I'm not mentioning Harrison as a legitimate possibility knowing what he's been through until he has a good / successful major league start). Does anyone here really believe that Bannister and company have enough duct tape to keep this team afloat? I guess we can hope the Astros and Angels struggle or at least don't go on a hot streak. It sucks because I thought this team could possibly do something before Beltre, Hamilton, and DDS went down.

You might be right. But shouldn't take much to get bullpen pieces though. If you're talking small moves anyway

I would like to see Hamilton and Beltre back too. It's to bad they went down

Gentleman.....I'm pouring some cool water on all this "contending" and "maybe if he comes back" talk.

I truly appreciate - would have lost more than one beer/steak dinner bet to date - what this team has accomplished.

But it's mid-June, and the wave of "the-dog-days" may crash down yet. Frankly, I suspect it will.

Martinez, going into the season was a # 4 at best, and yet he's been our best. Wandy was a non-entity, and Chi-Chi was AAA bound for the season. And our BP is pathetic.

All this under a a guy who's never managed a game in the majors (Named Banister-with one N).

I'm thrilled.....but not delusional.

I'm still holding out hope that this team can do something if they get to the all star break in decent shape ( 6 GB or less). That's a big if tho.

Surely Mitch Moreland is available for a move, right?

But seriously......But let's say we make it to the AS break in "decent shape" as you say. Whatever that means.

How much future do we give up to try and compete in a season of "Ranger Fantasy Baseball" is all I'm asking/cautioning us all for 2015, and more importantly, BEYOND.

We already have Lewis, Martinez, Gallardo, Rodriguez and Gonzalez all pitching reasonably well and then 3, Holland, Harrison & Perez, coming back sometime this year, I think the rotation is pretty solid right now and going forward

This is not likely to be a team thats in for the long haul, and there's no point in being buyers, I say let the team play as they are

Only thing that might be worthwhile is picking up a solid arm or 2 for the pen. Not a closer, just something to give us somewhere to go besides Kela and Tolley.

whether we are buyers or sellers we aught to see what we can get for Gallardo before he walks. Doubt he's in the picture for next year and beyond. That is assured of one or two of Harrison/Perez/Holland is productive. Doubt we can get a plug nickel for Wandy. Great as he is here.

@Evan_P_Grant: Source confirms Rangers calling up Odor. What comes next may be shocker. Could Gallo go to LF for injured DeShields? Rougned Odor returning to majors; could Joey Gallo move to left? | | Dallas Morning News

Just a matter of time till odor got the call back. Hopefully he's got his swagger back. I am not a fan of putting Gallo in the OF. Brilliant idea. Let's take him completely out of his element during his first foray into the bigs. :L
