Good depth signing, unfortunately I think the Sabres need more than a good depth singing once every offseason to remain competitive.

Sabres agree to terms with D Morrisonn on a two-year deal

The Buffalo Sabres have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent defenceman Shaone Morrisonn on a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Morrisonn, 27, spent the last five seasons with the Washington Capitals, consistently among the club's leaders in hits and blocked shots throughout his career. In 418 career games with Washington and Boston, Morrisonn has 10 goals and 60 assists with a plus- 36.

Originally drafted in the first round (19th overall) by Boston in the 2001 Entry Draft, Morrisonn was traded to Washington in March 2004 in the deal that sent Sergei Gonchar to the Bruins.

I'll take it. Looks like they filled the void with the two d man lost in free agency. Good shot blockers are hard to come by.

Some of the so called best wont do it.

He's nothing special, but he does block shots pretty well. He'll be a guy that'll just sorta be there. Won't make great defensive plays and won't make horrible ones either. Not as physical as the numbers might make him out to be, but he can fight....somewhat

Kinda described Toni Lydman aside from the fighting part.

I don't know what to think about this move either.

While I think they made a decent signing here, they once again have 8 defensemen on the roster including Mike Weber and NOT including Marc-Andre Gragnani.

After the signing of both Leopold and now Morrisonn it looks as if either Weber and Gragnani (especially Weber) won't ever get a fair shot, or they are now looking to move someone like Rivet, Montador, Butler or Sekera.

I have a hard time seeing all the aforementioned players still on the roster when the season starts.

Call me an idiot, but today's moves all point to a trade. If they don't, I'll be scratching my head until next June.

You can't be too excited about a guy who the Washington Capitals took a look at for four years and said.... "Hmmm, not good enough for OUR defense." :)
