Was talking about this at lunch today. I rattled off a few times where something similar has happened in hockey. One in particular I remembered was Tocchet with the Flyers. Got his jaw broken, went in, got a mask and came out and the game winner deflected in off his head.

And to think, some Offensive Linemen have RETIRED because of "turf toe".

Brendan Morrison is another one. He took a high stick from Shanahan, knocked out a bridge and about 4 new teeth. He missed the 3rd period, but came back to set up the OT winner. I have heard from those that were involved with testing in training camp that his pain tolerance is simply off the charts.

NBA: Dwayne Wade - had to be wheelchaired off the court in tears because of a hurt shoulder. that's right. can't walk b/c of a hurt SHOULDER.

I remember taking a puck in the chin (not too hard, it was a clearing attempt, not a shot), and as I am skating to chase down the loose puck, everyone else had just kind of stopped..... refs included. It wasn't a bad shot, but there was a shit-ton of blood. Went for a few stitches, but I was pissed that they called the play down.

I'd have been pissed too, especially if you were in the clear to chase it down.

I wonder if pain tolerance is something you develop because of hockey or if you gravitate towards hockey because of the pain tolerance.

I remember after I bailed on my bike and broke my jaw (and got a concussion and gashed my chin for 15 stitches), I rode home. Like 5 miles. I still remember the doctor didn't believe me. He didn't think it was possible with the amount of pain he thought I should have been in.
