Come on, man, be a uniter, not a divider...

No clue what they are, but probably something to do with swings at certain pitch counts? Enlighten the bourgeois.

you have zero confidence in us dont you scal.....

lol

I just have never anyone here actually divulge into Sabermetrics that much. Most of you seem to keep it simple and sweet. Which I respect a lot actually, and tend actually agree with..

Baseball has become a bit "stats" to death..

But some of those stats have their uses IMO...while others are kinda silly and pure confirmation bias...

I'm sure Down knows it all inside and out.

Like Contact rate.

O-swing: Percent of pitches swung outside the K zone

Z-swing: same thing, but inside the K zone

F-strike: % of first pitch strikes

SwStr: Swinging Strike Percentage

Stuff like that..

No, no, go back to the plate discipline discussion, that was way better than this.

The wipeout of the garbage cans at the end was like sweet, sweet icing.

A lot of Stats out there are kinda Meh. Over complicates its self. Like WAR..

I find some of them pretty useful as far as predicative measures though..

I see. But just swinging at a pitch in your zone isn't the same as actually hitting a pitch in your zone, so you have to have another metric for that, right?

Yes...they have O-Contact(Outside of the Zone), and Z-Contact (Inside the Zone)

We got robbed.

I feel your pain...I'm not letting 2000 go, either.

Padres fans have had two things to talk about: 1998 and Tony Gwynn.

But, you did have that wacky announcer guy, Jerry Gross? He was hilarious.

How many times have you sat there and watched a pitcher masterfully setup the batter, you and 37,000 other people in the stands know exactly what he's about to do, where he's going to pitch the guy and with what, you're praying silently in your mind for the batter NOT to swing at the forthcoming filthy slider on a 2-2 count and he does it anyway to strike out? Why is it if WE know when not to swing, the MLB player doesn't?

Yeah...sorry...that's where stats kinda put me to sleep. Now I've got 47 other things to take into account? And you're right, baseball has gone completely nuts with them.

I'm kind of a binary thinker, either it sucked, or it rocked. The batter got a hit, or the pitcher got an out. The important thing is that I had a beer while that happened.

And did the beer suck or rock.
