You know how I know I'm right?

Because if you thought I was wrong, you'd be arguing me about it.

But you're not...

Everyone reading this is nodding right now...

How can you be a Sox fan and believe that statement after the effect Daniel Bard had on 2011

Looks like we're both all-in on our beloved Sox tonight, Snoogs.

That anti-semite better pitch well.

So a dime a dozen 230 hitting position player that can be easily replaced, and every team has a few, is more important than a lights out set up man?
----

I think what Snuggs is saying? That a guy that plays the field for 9 innings, and gets 4 at bats a game in 150+ games...contributes more than a guy that gets 3 outs 60 times a year...

Ask me if I'd rather have an average 2nd baseman with an elite "8th inning guy" or an elite 2nd baseman and an avearge 8th inning guy?

I'm taking the elite position player...all day...every day....

Of course, but don't assume that's what he's saying, he's not

Point is any team can carry dead weight in a lineup and achieve huge things. You carry dead weight as the primary guy holding your teams leads, youre not going far

But of course I'm taking Pedroia over a great set up man

Pete wouldn't trade Robertson for Buster Posey...

Scientific...

Gotta have that good setup man...

Right, best Catcher in the game vs. Best set up man

Seems like a smart comparison.

I bet you this. There will be no less than 5 teams in baseball this season that miss October and the in-ability to hold leads will be the #1 reason, not 19th

No, what I'm saying is.

Would you rather have an elite set-up man or an elite left fielder?

Right fielder?

Catcher?

Short stop, perhaps?

1-5 starting pitchers?

Your closer then?

You go across the diamond and the roster and say "if I could have an elite player, where would I want him to be?"

If "set up man" isn't about the 19th choice on your list?

having to move the goalposts doesn't help your argument

It's you moving the goal posts...not me...

You can "reasonably speculate" that in 3 years Kennedy may be considered a better pick than Shaun Marcum...no differently than I can "reasonably speculate" in 3 years Noah Syndargaard will be considered a better draft pick than Ian Kennedy...

Pete's catching to how ridiculous Yankee fans sound when they beat their chests over a sodding "set-up man" being the crown jewel of Cashman's drafts...

wait...are you now claiming that speculation based on performance in MLB is the same as speculation of performance in the majors based on draft position? That's what you're reduced to?

I would agree with that

But..an Elite Set Up wont usually be the 16th best player on his team. Since most all teams have some holes in the Lineup and Rotation.

Also it correlation fails because the Variance between Long snappers is just Good or bad.. While Set up man have a lot more degree's of success and fail.

see the troll routine is boring...and stupid

no one called him the crown jewel of anything...and no one beat their chests over it...we laughed at down disagreeing with the fact that he is one of the best setup men in baseball

Yes Ron

In the most extreme circumstance where I have Buster Posey types at every position, the set up man would be at the bottom of the importance list

But in your most common situations, a great set up man is more important than a lot of guys on your typical ML roster

Yes, I agree... If everything is equal across positions... a great player is better than a mediocre one.
