Let's see what he can do without Wagner and Wright doing a lot of the dirty work. He's a freak athlete that's a good roamer. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a pretty solid player that knows football, but he's not the type of guy you can pin down to a traditional roll.
I'm glad that he's not signing with the Cardinals, who also reportedly had a strong interest in him. Would have hated seeing him playing for a division rival.
Yeah, he has Mack and Lofton - maybe not Wagner and Wright, but it should still be a more than solid LB corps - but I think the Raiders can do a lot with their youth and cap space to make that defense pretty formidable.
Absolutely! Good for Bruce. He was a fine Seahawk and repped the team well. Another hit in the draft for Pete and John.
I hate to lose him but biz is biz. Got to reload on the cheap.
I can't wait to see the numbers. With the way teams with money have been spending, this should be amusing. I think Irvin is a good player, but he is not an elite pass rusher.
He should do well in Oakland. Having Mack opposite of him should free him up to get to the QB.
Good fit for the Raiders. Tuck was really helping the D-Line before he went down so if they get him back and shore up their secondary their D might be shaping up. Their O already appears decent. Raiders might be one more free agent pick up (they have SO much cap) and a good draft away from the playoffs.
Bruce is not an elite pass rusher so it'll be funny to see if he gets that kind of money, but he is a good pass defender. Oakland was bottom 10 in that category last year, so Irvin will surely help cover some slower WRs and TEs. But who knows, with Mack on the other side, Irvin may be fairly disruptive and perhaps Oakland uses him differently than Seattle.
As for Seattle, Seattle doesn't send their linebackers that often. They generate pressure with the front 4. 70% of their sacks came from the front 4. That said, Bruce did generate the most sacks for a Seattle linebacker (5.5) but that # just doesn't warrant a big contract. Most of the time Seattle dropped him. I'd rather have Seattle spend their money on the lines (both of them) which they already did with Rubin to keep the run defense stout and just plug in another linebacker.
