Brian Hoyer of Cleveland Browns to start over Johnny Manziel - ESPN

LOL! A change instantly galvanizes a stale offense and gives them a shot to make the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Do they do it? Of course not....They're the fucking Browns.

I don't see them going more than 2-2 the rest of the way..... That won't get it done.

I feel much better about playing them with Hoyer in there than Manziel. A rookie QB who we have little tape on who can run? Would eat us alive.

My concern is that Hoyer will lose this weekend, and Manziel will get his first career start against us. You know how that will go.

We'd probably be better off if the Browns win this weekend.

Probably. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly the Browns see in Hoyer that makes them think he can be a real NFL QB.

they've already seen Hoyer's upside.

but, the Browns aren't used to winning and they've never had this problem before.

can you imagine then trading away JF for picks? they'd do something stupid like that.
and his off the field immaturity might lead them to do that.

Can we trade for him? Please?

I'd much rather play Hoyer than Manziel. Especially the INT machine Hoyer from the last few games. The problem is, no matter who starts for the Browns when we play them, is Ginger will be under center for us.

Hoyer is going to shit the bed against Indy.
the only reason they are playing Hoyer is because a crushing defeat against Indy is not something you want your rookie QB to have to deal with right away.

Probably a lot of this.

But it's probably a little late to switch QB's now given there are only 4 games left. Manziel will have his moments, but you can expect a lot of inconsistency as well. Growing pains. That in and of itself is conceding the season. At some point as a rookie starting his career, he'll drop the ball in a game and that'll be the end of the season. At least with Hoyer, he has that consistency and reps with the offense. Of course, there's a greater chance of failure, but there is also a greater chance of playing deeper into the season assuming he comes out of his slump.

I'd rather play Manziel. Fingers crossed. He's a train wreck.

The locker room wanted Hoyer with the playoffs in reach. Teammates weren't comfortable leaving their playoff hopes in the hands of a rookie. Manziel shouldn't start til next season, or after they're eliminated from the playoff race.

I have a real problem listening to the roster of a team that hasn't won dick...... Why the hell should they be in charge?

Coaches get paid to make tough decisions...... I'm fairly sure that the 49ers roster didn't want Alex Smith to be benched either -- But I also don't think they would have made the NFC championship with him.

Kurt Warner also agreed with continuing to move forward with Hoyer.

The 49ers were forced - due to injury - to play Kaepernick, and he played very well in Smith's absence. It was easy for the players to get on board with the switch. It could turn out that Manziel blows everyone away when he gets the starting job, but without evidence to show the likelihood of it, you can't blame the players (or coaches) for not wanting to take the risk at this point of the season.

The thing is, Manziel won't start, but he'll play damn near the entire second half against the Colts.

then what are they going to do?

yank Hoyer every week?

Manziel will start against us, and we will have trouble stopping his scrambling just like we had trouble with Cam Newton earlier in the season (only worse, because he's still very young and quick)
hopefully we can chase him with a linebacker and he'll make a mistake or two

Cleveland would be out of their damn minds if they start Manzeil over Hoyer.

The Browns are 10-6 under Hoyer. That is a full season worth of games and usually good enough to make a playoff spot.

When was the last time the Browns were able to string together 10 wins in 16 games? When was the last time they were over .500 at this point in the season?

I think if they want to win, and have a chance for the playoffs, you leave Hoyer in as QB.

Well, if Kurt Warner said it, I guess I'll change my mind.....

Hoyer isn't good enough to get them to the playoffs given the teams still on their schedule. And he's certainly not good enough to win a game in the playoffs. He's good enough to manage a game and they might win if everything else goes right.

It's surprising to me that people that recognize these same faults in Dalton (or Smith) make excuses for keeping Hoyer in the game when you have better talent (albeit raw) on the bench.

And if I'm wrong, I'll be here J-Will style.

oh, it's a very sane and rational decision, but they are still going to yank him again Sunday

Had to look this up but the last time the Browns were over .500 this late in the season was '07, 7-5. Also '07 was last time they won 10 games in a season. '02: 7-6 (finished 9-7), '94: 9-3 (finished 11-5).

Why did I look this up? Dammit now I'm depressed!

That was the year they traded up for Brady Quinn when they had Derek Anderson playing well enough not to get benched.

Funny how history repeats itself.
