I sincerely hope this means Cahill is off the team. Corbin, Arroyo, Miley, Delgado, and Bradley. Please get Cahill and McCarthy off this team. Oh man. Please!

That is a really good deal for the Dbacks.

It gives them:

-An above league average 200 inning workhorse
-Protection for the annual June McCarthy shoulder injury
-Allows the Dbacks to hold back Bradley & not rush him
-Gives the Dbacks an SP for 2015/16 when both McCarthy & Cahill will be gone

Id love this if I was DBack fan. Guaranteed to eat 200 innings. And the homeruns should probably see a little dip too.

Dammit, I did NOT want this guy in the division but better the D'backs than Dodgers.

He'll give you a chance to win more often than not. Im glad he's not a Dodger too. Or a Royal or Indian. (NL seemed likely.)

He goes from a hitters park to another hitters park. He will probably lead our rotation in home runs allowed.

Possibly, but his numbers will likely improve from what it was in the launching pad in Cincy. Chase has been middle of the pack in HR(s) over the last few seasons.

Then explain why you don't like having a 200 inning above league average workhorse in the rotation at a cheap price.

Delgado could provide similar numbers and has more potential at a MUCH cheaper rate. 37 year old to a 2 year deal? Ehh.

I'm not totally against Arroyo or anything. I just had higher expectations this offseason.

I don't doubt he could lead your staff in HRs given up. (Ervin Santana would be about the same odds if youd went that route.)But I believe it was something like 19 out of 32 were at home last year. Cincy is homerville, IMO. (I don't have numbers in front of me.)

This deal allows the Dbacks to trade either Cahill or McCarthy during spring training or near the allstar break if Bradley or Delgado prove they are ready. McCarthy is gone after this year & Cahill is too if he pitches like he did in 2013 this season while being scheduled for $12 mil in 2015. This gives the team options this season & fallback options for 2015 should Cahill need to be traded.

All of that remains to be seen. Remember KT is making the decisions. 38 year old Arroyo isn't that much of an upgrade next year over anyone, IMO.

I really like this acquisition considering the options left available.

It would be really nice to see our major weak link McCarthy go away ASAP and Arroyo step right into his spot.

I wonder what the new projected line-up will be now?

I actually like this signing apart from the money he was paid. We now have a workhorse that can be asserted into the lineup from day one and help the rotation in case Cahill gets injured by moving or mccrapy forgets to duck.

If we do get rid of one of Cahill/McCarthy then I'm OK with this I guess. He's never been on the DL and he's reached 200 innings or more in 8 of the last 9 years. 9.5 mil a year ain't bad. Just saw all of the details of the deal.
