What did I say that makes you think I thought otherwise?

I was on my phone and your dolphins quote wasn't coming through. I just assumed it was a knock on Joseph and likely just made an ass of myself.

Ignore this dumb broncos fan, folks. Nothing to see here.

I agree, Shanny and Wade would have been dangerous. Vance has already said he wouldn't keep Wade and that means the D, which has been the strength of the team gets changed. Probably for the worse because they'll have to get used to a new philosophy and play calls. Big mistake IMO. I mean , it's not like Miami's D even compares to the Broncos, so I don't see the the genius in this one.

Just a few thoughts...

1) Talked to a couple of people close to the Broncos and from what I understand Wade was a big part of dividing the team late in the year when they were struggling. He and Elway had an argument after the Super Bowl when Wade came to him asking for a raise and Elway said no. Elway wanted to see more than just one season before making him the highest paid DC and well Wade didn't take too kindly to that.

2) Most of the defensive staff is staying other than Wade. So the unit should stay pretty strong. Have to see how the play calling will be handled but at least staff wise there will be a lot of consistency on that side of the ball.

3) Joseph part of the reason, and maybe not the best, but he was hired because he was available. The Broncos felt like they could get a stronger staff around him now rather than waiting and hoping that Shanahan would want to coach the Broncos. That is why there are rumors now that they will not only get McCoy to be OC but get Bill Musgraves to come on as QB's coach. So the stronger the staff around Joseph the better the chance for immediate success.

4) They feel like Vance Joseph is an incredible communicator. With the Broncos locker room very much divided they feel like he can be one to help bridge the gap and get the locker room much more unified. That is a big part of what a head coach has to do anymore and they just feel like he will do the best job.

At this point I'm willing to wait and see the staff that he assembles and see how the team does. Plenty of coaches hired were not thought of as great choices at first. Heck didn't somebody post an article the other day that Bill Belichick was the consolation prize since the Jets didn't get the coach they actually wanted?

Mike Tomlin wasn't considered a real candidate until he interviewed and blew the Steelers away. He has done a pretty good job I would say.

Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator with many when he was hired going "who?"

So while I have no clue how this hire will work out I"m at least willing to trust Elway. He hasn't given me much reason to not trust him so far with the Broncos. Both coaches he has hired so far have lead the team to the Super Bowl. And the funny thing is the defensive guy they hired (John Fox) lead the team with a high powered offense and the offensive guy (Kubiak) lead them with defense. So maybe the Broncos view it as they can actually improve the offense by hiring a defensive minded guy and then getting a great offensive staff that he can just trust the offense to.

I hate that they got McCoy at OC. He is a garbage game manager but he is a great offensive mind.

Did they?

Yeah, that lessens the blow of them signing Vance Johnson for sure

That was a must for a team trying to locate their offense

Could be, and then it could be right price, right person too. Elway is a miser like Ozzie so he may figure, who needs a HC to do anything but lead around here ?
I'll put good people around him, tell him how I want things done and let him do what he does best, communicate and lead. And at a cheaper price than normal. :2cents:

Yeah that all could be true. I do like the staff they are putting together. From the sound of it they are getting both Musgrave and McCoy to join the offensive staff. So 2 OC's working together could either be magical or destructive just have to wait and see. I do know that other teams were trying to get our Secondary Coach Joe Woods as a DC which is in part why the Broncos felt comfortable moving on from Wade and just promoting him. They are also keeping the rest of the defensive staff other than Wade so should lead to some continuity in system for the players and comfort level.

I would rather have Dennison here instead of Marty, maybe Harbs is looking at that....We finally dumped Castillo, brought in Roman to bolster our run game even though they gave him a different title, we know what it's for....
It's talk that Dennison may come back as our qb coach because he and Joe hit it off when he was here....
It would be a smart move to have him here when Marty tanks, I really don't want Roman as OC.....
Several spots to be filled, the only one I don't like is Frasier leaving....I was hoping he would take over for Pees his pants....He is the reason our D was so much better this year and now he's gone...Concerned !!

So in other words he's Andy Reid.

He reminds me a little of Andy Reid, tbh, but the Chargers lost a huge number of close games this year. Andy Reid went something like 5-3 including the playoff game by my count which was significantly better than the Chargers who went 1-6 this year by my count. So Andy Reid was much better last year but that might just be due to Peters and Berry and not Reid.
