Broncos decline 5th year option on Shane Ray

Wow 12 of the 32 1st round picks had their 5th year options declined.

Dante Fowler, Kevin White, Ereck Flowers, Danny Shelton, Cam Erving, Cedric Ogbuehi, Shane Ray, Breshad Perriman, Laken Tomlinson, Phillip Dorsett, Stephone Anthony, and Malcom Brown.

Any you disagree with?

That draft class as a whole isn't aging very well, imo. Not a lot of depth and I feel like we're starting to see some question marks showing up even in the 'stars' of that class.

Definitely not the best draft class by any means. Not as bad as the 2013 draft though. That was historically bad. Almost feel bad for the Chiefs that the year they get the #1 overall pick is one of the worst drafts ever. Again ALMOST.

Me too. But I wouldn't fault Denver for not taking the risk.. But I sure as heck would love to see a 12-14 sack performance by him this year.

I had the same thought - George. If he plays lights out in his contract year the Broncos can still sign him, but if he leaves they will figure to get draft pick compensation. If Holland works out - the Broncos may have already replaced Ray.

The Broncos may go long term contract with Shaq Barrett instead - statistically the same production, but a less expensive option.

They could be but I doubt it. He'll play out this year and probably shine, since there's so much riding on it for him. Shane Ray is a good football player and someone is going to pay him. I wanted that someone to be the Broncos but that's starting to look like a slim proposition.

Barrett doesn't have the eye popping stat sacks, but he puts pressure on the QB with the best of them.

The rumor was he was shopped on the last two days of the draft but nothing worth trading him for.

Given where we drafted Chubbster, I can't see where he really even breaks the starting lineup. He'll likely play less and less as the season goes on, even if healthy.

Love the kid, glad he cleaned up his act coming out of school, and hope he has a career year. But I wouldn't bet on that last part with DC's money.

I see him almost exclusively playing as a sub for Von or Chubb at this point.

Either way, it's your money, not mine.

If Ray starts over Chubb it means Chubb either really starts off slow or gets hurt or Ray REALLY picked it up!

Chubb has a starting job to lose right now.

and if Chubb stays healthy and makes an impact right away like we expect and Ray stays healthy (which we don't expect). Let's let it rain pass rushers here!!! Can never have enough pass rushers running in and out. The best potion for a pass rusher is fresh legs #Believe

If Chubb isn't the starter (outside of an injury), it's going to be a looooong season.

This Broncos defense is going to be built on rotation, IMO. Starter, schmarter. Ray and Barrett can both be big contributors, even with Von and Chubb tearing it up. I expect a big rebound in sacks and QB pressures this year.
