To this point, the Jones contract looks awful.
The bottom line is that qbs don't grow on trees and you had better have one.
I am guessing they thought jones did just enough last year to be an average qb and that daboll could help him improve.
I think they panicked and didn't want to be one of the 10 teams that have no qb.
I don't know.

He's 13th in the league among QBs in cap hit for 2023 and they're really only tied to him for one more season after this. Guys like Russ, Tannehill, and Watson are all making far more than him. He's also their leading rusher (Barkley is getting 3.9 ypc to Jones' 5.1).

I don't see a valid offensive plan though. Barkley is solid when healthy, but they bring in Waller then fail to utilize him like it seemed they were intending in the preseason. Their WR corps is a bunch of 3s, 4s and 5s. The offensive line is a shambles. They've given up 22 sacks, 11 in this past game. What a mess. Dink and dunk isn't getting it done, and when Jones does try to push the envelope, he's thrown 6 picks.

Waller should be a tool to mitigate the horrible protection. He should be utilized as a security blanket.

NFL teams should really get in the business of letting average QBs walk. They were better saving all that money by signing a veteran free agent QB on a 1 year deal then using the resources in building an all around good team.

That sounds good in theory, but what QBs make it to free agency? This year, there was Carr, Garoppolo and Mayfield basically (and a bunch of clipboard holders). Carr got 4/150M and Garoppolo got 3/73M. Mayfield has surprised thus far, but we'll see how that goes as expectations rise with the Bucs good start.

Jones certainly isn't the answer long term, but he gives them a mobile place holder behind that atrocious line. Front offices without job security don't like to punt seasons looking to the future. The Giants decent season last year as worth trying to build upon, but they REALLY needed more help on the offense (OL, WR).

He's certainly not going to block much. I just don't get the low usage. It's not like they have someone else dominating the target share.

5-8 yard option route from the slot is a quick hitter. Out of shot gun that ball can come out quickly.

They need WR routes deeper to allow for that slot route underneath. Unfortunately, it seems most of their offense is dump offs and quick hitters, no threat downfield. Wandale is promising, but again is filling that same role as Waller could/should. Too much duplication among the receivers IMO. Hyatt could be that downfield threat, but has only been targeted 4 times total in his 3 games, with only 2 of those being downfield.

Someone that I like and for some reason NFL teams just refuse to give this man a starting job is Gardner Minshew. I would definitely be ok with letting him be our starting QB and surrounding him with weapons.

Their receivers are truly lacking. Jones should be targeting Waller like he is his best friend.

Agreed. Seattle's got so many new faces on D so it's hard to say this year, but historically (last few years) they get absolutely abused by tight ends. Only 3 targets on 34 throws doesn't sound like enough to me.

And he was good at getting YAC with the Raiders....he is really NY's best option....by far.

That pass rush was sick....Lol.

lol I mean Seattle has been drafting and signing pass rush specialists (Jones was a pass rusher, Reed is better in pass rush, Hall pass rusher, Taylor that's literally all he does, Mafe, I guess Witherspoon now... lol) for the last couple years, BUT New Yorks OL was pretty beat up.

That said, so was Seattle's... Seattle had zero starting OL out there (Brown is a starter but was moved from Center to Guard for a 5th round rookie lol). Seattle seemed to manage SOMEWHAT by only allowing 2 sacks to one player and only 3 QB hits I think. Not like they moved the ball that well but I would take New Yorks DL over Seattle's in a heartbeat.

I can't FULLY blame Jones on that performance (although both INTs were facepalm worthy)... they basically just kind of threw Jones on an island with 5 OL and said "figure it out" lol. At least Seattle is using 2-3 TEs per play to shore up the blocking.
