You're not a front runner areally you? But yes after Friday he'd be a good choice.
Actually I stick with my guys. After one game I still am not certain we don't bring in another vet and if Romo does go down it will be a tough spot for Prescott even if he is the real deal. And of course we all hope that doesn't happen and he doesn't get the chance to play meaningful snaps. I loved what I saw of him and can't imagine being more impressed with a young QB thrown into game action for the first time, but I understand that Gary Hogeboom didn't end up being a HOFer so I will hold off on making a decision on what I think Prescott is until I see him a couple of more times.

anything new on Jaylon Smith

Probably best to just put Jaylon Smith out of your mind until this time next year.

Just a gut feeling, but I don't think Smith is ever going to play a down for Dallas. I know that's not a popular opinion, and I should keep it to myself, but I have already written that pick off. Hope like hell I am wrong. We will see.

Well at least it can only be good news for you going forward!

I agree on this year though. The guy just does not seem like he is going to play this year and that is fine with me. I think everyone should just accept that and not look for him to come save our season or anything like that. But, I never expected to see him this year from day 1. However, I do expect him to start for us at some point. I'm hoping it is next year, but at this point I can't do anything other than hope and wait. Call me crazy, but I think he ends up a player for us:hope:

Jaylon Smith giving Cowboys fans reason for hope

Sounds promising on Smith, most likely not this season, but yes for 2017.
Part of the reason I don't think he plays this year even if he improves is I don't think it's worth the risk. If he gets better and we rush him out there and he has a relapse we could lose him for another year. I think we are OK at LB. We have one star and a bunch of guys that I think will stick their nose in there and can do the job. All we need is two to step up and earn starters snaps and I think we will also see some rotation to maximize the various skill sets.

Agree 100% I prefer waiting than risking a setback.

At the risk of being Debbie Downer, that article doesn't tell us anything new. It's literally the same message that was given to Cowboys fans right after the draft. The only difference is there is a Gil Brandt quote in there saying (paraphrasing) "I won't be surprised to see him play last 1/4 of the season". No offense to Gil Brandt, but he knows about as much about Jaylon Smith's knee as I know about rocket science.

Consider me not impressed.

I expect every article this year to be sprinkled in with a fresh new quote, but no real update. If he isn't practicing in pads in early August 2017 I'll be concerned. If he somehow returns to full practice before that I'll be happy. I really don't even read the articles on him. It's just too far out to predict

I read this on Twitter during the game - the last time a rookie threw two TDs in a preseason game , the starter named Tony was cut the following Monday. I guess I have 8 hours.

Many are saying we never had a backup look like this. OK 10-12 for 130 is pretty hard to match but I always thought Orton looked good.

Yeah, he has thrown 12 passes and played a half of football. Hold off on the anointing oil. But, I think we all know that. We are just psyched at how well his first game went because none of us expected that.

I think the excitement is based on a lot of things. First off we all want to see all of our draft picks play and when one looks like he could be a great pick we know how good that can be for us (Just like if Collins gets 3 sacks in his debut). Second, we have ignored the QB position in the draft for so long. When was the last time we had a young QB that we just drafted that any of us thought had even a chance of being our next starting QB? Lastly, we went into the off-season knowing a good part of what derailed last year was Romo going down. Most of us wanted to bring in a veteran to compete for the backup spot, but we didn't. Then the one guy that had any game experience at all (regardless of your thoughts on him) goes down and leaves us with a rookie and a guy with little more experience then a rookie. So what looked like a position that had us disappointed that we didn't bring in (list your preferred also ran backup QB here) and could again derail our season if something happened to Romo and had us looking to trade guys like Leary or McFadden (who we can now possibly keep or trade for something else (DL help?) if he does it again) has become a bright spot for not only this year but maybe for the long term. Yes, that bright spot may dim a little next game and go out altogether by the time the season starts, but it wasn't just the stats themselves. It was his poise, his accuracy, his arm strength, the deep ball and his ability to read the defense, even if it was a simple preseason defense. It was a good day for young Mr. Prescott.

Always have been high on Dak. I'm an SEC guy and mentioned him plenty. I, in no way, was trying to down play his performance. I just always thought Ort threw a beautiful ball

Wasn't really directed at you, just quoted because continuing the discussion and I was agreeing with you. He has a long way to go, but it was a great start.

I think most of us were high on Dak pre-draft. Most felt he'd be a Cowboy and most wanted him to be a Cowboy. I think the difference was that a couple of you guys were talking about taking him as early as round 2 or 3 whereas most of us were thinking round 4. We ended up right from the prediction point of view (as to where he will be drafted) but you guys (and PDAy, UK, etc) sure look to be right from the talent point of view which is much more important. Thumbs up:thumb:

Look at his production in College and how he looked the other night and you have a lot of fans and teams thinking what did we miss? Now the hard part...do it again...

I liked him most because of the intangibles. He didn't always throw the best pass or make the best play, he just won. To win games at Miss St. In the SEC West is pretty special on its own.

JJ was on phone to bill and he had suggested we take a flyer on drew bledsoe.

Cold water alert!!! LOL...

It wasn't the best few days of practice for Dak Prescott coming off the big game against the Los Angeles Rams. I will be interested to see how he plays this week while working with the backup offensive personnel group. I believe we will find out a great deal about him as a quarterback during this game.

RB Morris will be very valuable for this team. I am not sure if you can call it break out as he has been a starter in this league, but he ain't done and he might be able to push Zeke in ways he never thought of before, and I mean that in a good way.

Morris looked pretty good last night. Might make someone else tradable.
