NFCS is starting to look a lot like the AFCE like 5-20 years ago.

I had assumed that Tomlin would take this route back in 2020, but then he surprised the hell outta most the fanbase and signed a 4 yr extension. With Ben on the brink of retirement, Colbert rumored to be stepping down, and Tomlin on year to year deals it felt like the team was getting ready for a massive shift.

Saints are going to take at least 4-5 years to recover from this, if not longer.
About 8 years ago the Raiders dumped about $80M of talent and accelerated all their cap debt. They filled their roster with cheap young players and had a 3-13 type season. They went from being $55M over a $130M cap to being a young team with $25M in cap space. If the Saints trade their star players for future picks and eat their cap debt for 2 seasons they'll end up with a lot of high picks and cap space. Picks and cap space hasn't worked out so far for the Dolphins but their story isn't fully played out either. The Saints could be back sooner than most think.

70 mil over the cap and likely need a pretty big overhaul. I’m not surprised

All the talk about Payton coming back with another team a year or two down the road.....

.....just remember that they said the exact same thing about Cowher. TV is good money and relatively easy work.

Looking at their cap... not many players they can release or trade as a lot of dead money would accelerate and make matters worse.

Bradley Roby is good as gone... after that expect some extensions to get under to push out money (and the problem).

Definite salary cap hell... skipper (coach) is not going down with the boat in this case :D

If McCarthy wasn't fired after the game.

He ain't going to fired now

Why? The coach that Jerry has always wanted is now available. He wasn't available after the game.

And he is a Smart man
yes he is

the media is banking on jerry desperate for a championship but he's not.

Jerry is a salesman, deal maker and since Jimmy it's always been about his brand and making large sums on the investment.
Jerry could very well pull out all the stops to land Sean in Dallas. Great theater and the timing will draw the national interest.

NOW...Jerry knows full well the league wants the buzz to be the championship games and SB. Does Jerry care about that?

Yeah that's another thing. It would be smart for Jerry to fire McCarthy and hire Payton. Sean Payton is a far better HC than Mike McCarthy. It would be a major upgrade and the first actually good HC they have had since Parcells.

From the sounds of it though if Payton is doing some retirement and taking a year off it gives Jerry and McCarthy another year for McCarthy to blow it somehow again and then he can fire him for Payton next year. Once thing is for certain though and that is at some point whether it be this year or next, Mike McCarthy is getting fired by Jerry Jones for Sean Payton.

I will be ever thankful for Jerrah helping the Rams get out of that shit hole St.Louis and help them get to LA. Him and Kroenke seem to be besties
