Obviously there could never be straight glass around the ice, that would be foolish, players need to hop the bench. They could easily create a new dimension to that glass to make it 100 times more safe for the players along the boards... 100 bucks says nothing is done.

I liken this to Cooke getting 0 games for ending Savards career. Except Boston fans seem to think this is a good ruling.

This is NOTHING like the Cooke hit, that is comical that you would even compare the two.

Both were dirty to me. Both deserved suspension and neither resulted in one. Seems pretty similar

The Cooke hit was worse in result but it clearly looked like he was trying to hurt this guy and had a history with the player.

I do not believe Chara was intent on hurting him.

It's the simple fact that the play was dangerous, a check along the bench is a bad spot on the ice.

He is a veteran in the NHL, I cant be convinced he didnt know where and what he was doing considering his history with the guy.

I'm all for big hits but at the very least Chara's hit was very irresponsable.Personally when you factor in that the hit took place in the final seconds of the period on a dead play, the location of the hit,Chara's follow through on Pac and the history and lack of remorse following the hit.I think the hit was dirty.I have A hard time buying into the big hits happen anywhere or Chara not knowing his surroundings.Look at it this way if A player hits another player facing the boards are they not held accountable for not showing restraint. What Chara did was both wreckless and irresponsable and resulted in doing major damage to another player. The league dropped the ball by not making some kind of statement about this and showed total disregard for the health of its players.Should have been at the least 2 games.

His history is a shoving match after Max scored an OT winner. Sure, you could make the argument that there is intent. But, you also have to take into account the players' past. Chara has none when it comes to stuff like this, unlike Cooke.

Bottom line, the NHL didn't punish a player for a dangerous play. Even though that is what they're supposedly trying to spotlight in the game today.

A player on the team Colin Campbell's son plays for got off scott free. How Surprising.

Severe concussion and fractured vertebrae for Pacioretty. NHL's message to him: Suck it up kid, it's the big bad Bruins.

I understand what you're saying, but isnt this what we want from our players? The play may have been dead, but I dont think the whistle was blown (watch the video without sound). Us Devil fans love Parise because we know know his playing his ass off every shift until the whistle blows, dead play or not, and thats what it looked like Chara was doing.

Also, this was NOTHING like Cooke's dirty hit.

I'm not going to get into cooke, campbell or any conspiracy stuff.I'm just going off facts and experience and as far as I'm conscerned players are responsable for knowing their surroundings and when to use restraint. You don't lay into A guy when certain dangers are involved. And in the final seconds of a period....

During the game I love seeing Parise's drive but I can tell you this I would hate to see Zach get drilled on A dump in at the end of the second period.

I put this in another forum:

I understand the logic behind the decision. Chara did something illegal: interference. It happens a dozen times a game: forward chips it past the D, and the D plays the man a little too late.

Interference is a two-minute penalty. You could argue that Chara put a little more oomph into the hit than necessary; but he got a five-minute major and game misconduct for that. By the rules, what merited any further discipline? Nothing in the rulebook, unfortunately.

But the NHL has missed the bigger picture. When you decide to initiate physical contact outside the rules of the game - in this case, a late hit - you SHOULD be partially accountable for the result. Compare it to speeding: driving 140 on the highway is a minor fine, but if you hit and kill somebody while driving 140, you're in a lot more trouble than if you do the same driving the speed limit. Technically, Chara only broke one rule: interference. But he did it in a dangerous part of the ice, and someone is very seriously hurt as a consequence; he should have to account for that. That's WITHOUT even taking into consideration the history between the two players, or his intent.

The message the NHL is sending: as long as you don't break any rules, feel free to kill someone. That's why Matt Cooke got off without a suspension when he hit Savard (irony). Now they'll make a new rule to avoid hits like this in the future, but down the line someone will get hurt by an unforeseen dangerous play, and the perpetrator will get off again.

It's simple: Dangerous play that resulted in an injury? You're suspended. Might be for one game, might be for twenty, might be the season. People will still get hurt (you'll never prevent the accidental Steckel on Crosby type hits) but the Cooke/Savard and Chara/Max incidents will decrease for sure.

Long post over...
