I thought it was a movie about Queen. Hmm guess not!

Clue us in. I also thought it was about some music.
If its about gay angst, I'll pass.
? I just watched it for the first time last night and found it to be fantastic. What did you not like about it?
Yes, mainly a Freddy Mercury biopic.Clue us in. I also thought it was about some music.

Really? I didn't think it was that bad at all. He doesn't even realize he's gay until the end of the first third of the movie, and it's only the second third where it's a big factor. Not angst but that is a large part of the issue I had.
The movie was less about Queen and more about Freddy and his Dick chasing drama. Had they titled it Bohemiam Rhapsody ( A Freddy Mercury Biography ) I would have been less taken back. I feel the movie missed the mark as it related to the band as whole and the bands total experience and the influence their music had on the industry.
On a scale of 10 I gave it 4.

I liked it. It wasn't movie of the year or anything but it worked.
Decent performances. Good music. Really focused on Freddie Mercury but its called Bohemian Rhapsody so thats to be expected. Mike Myers being in the movie is one of the funnier casting decisions in the past couple of years and they managed to pull it off.
The movie wouldn't work without Mercury being the focus. There would be no struggle otherwise. His struggle with homosexuality in an unaccepting world, I'm guessing some sort of depression, and certainly AIDS is the only thing that glues the whole movie together. If it doesn't have any of that then its basically just a 2 hour music video.
Not sure where you got that. The song was written by several band members never really clarified what it was all about. The song Bohemian Rhapsody is about Freddy acceptance of his being gay, so the title kind of tells you what it is about.
Not sure where you got that. He has the songwriting credit, which implies he’s responsible for the lyrics and general melodies (at least). Not sure where you got that. The song was written by several band members never really clarified what it was all about.

Freddie Mercury taking center stage is the point, though. So to reiterate Bohemian Rhaposody (The Freddy Mercury Story) as I said had it been presented as that I would have been less taken back.
We all know Freddy was a huge part of making Queen who they were that was obvious before the movie so I am unsure why the focus needed to be there.
Like I said I gave it a 4 out of 10. Worth a watch one time, reasonably entertaining, but left me wishing they had taken a better angle. They told us nothing we did not already know and focused way to much on the Freddy drama and personal struggles.
True, but that’s what the rest of the band wanted. They wanted the feel of the band and they wanted Freddy in the best light possible. Other people tried to make more honest movies about Queen and Freddy but the band has always protected their image and him. The producers wanted to end with Live Aid for obvious reasons, so a bunch of things that happened later had to be put before that. Also they simplified a lot of stuff for time reasons. They didn’t want to show a lot of the darker side of thingsIt was an enjoyable but flawed movie. More like an extended music video than an actual movie.
It played very fast and loose with history as well.
Again so call it what is was. See the movie firstI still haven’t seen it, but everything I’ve seen about it has been pretty clear it revolves around Freddie Mercury. Don’t know why you’d expect different. Even without that part not being a secret, what else do you expect? Not making him the focus of the movie would make it the same old rock band story that’s been done hundreds of times, and really isn’t all that interesting. I guess they could have focused on Brian May moonlighting as an astrophysicist, but I don’t know that that’d sell tickets like Freddie’s story.
And that was part of what the band contested, a lot of the credits were automatically given to Freddy when all were involved. I don't doubt he was the main contributor though. Not sure where you got that. He has the songwriting credit, which implies he’s responsible for the lyrics and general melodies (at least).
