make no bones about it... this is a huge change for this football team. I love it. I do wish we had more than one defensive captain though.

Who would another be? Guess Ankrah could fit

Nah. I like it the way it is. The most deserving guys got it IMO. Consistent, proven players. Ankrah is neither of those things.

I wonder if they will get a "C" patch on their jersey like HWSNBN gave out.

those are fine, just as long as they don't look something like this.

I just think, "oh look, I got a special "c", I'm special, I don't look stupid at all, nope, I look great with that "c" on my jersey."

I don't see anything wrong with that, but that's just me. I really don't think we should use the same patch we did during the dark age. Call me superstitious or whatever, but I wouldn't like being reminded of that every time I see our captains.

I don't think we need any special patches. In hockey is the only place where it makes sense. Because if you have the c or the a, it means you can talk to the referees. but in football, that would seem as a ploy to sell more jersey and I think it makes a uniform look childish.

I like it. I don't know why you think it looks childish. It signifies leadership and lets the person who has it and his teammates know who is to be looked to when things get tough. And they will get tough. It can be easy to forget who needs to be taking responsibility and who needs to be respected and trusted in the heat of battle. It means the person who has it has accepted and dedicated themselves completely to being a model teammate who everyone can and should look to.

Really I don't care that much either way about whether a guy has the C on his jersey, it's just the fact that coach Bo himself assigned specific players to be accountable for the whole team and to be coaches on the field for the rest of the season. Not just one game, but the entire season.

We've had this conversation on this board quite a bit. It needed to happen a long time ago, but I think this maybe shows that Bo has finally decided that he has a group of guys he absolutely knows he can trust to consistently be model teammates. They are proven leaders whom everyone on the team respects. It's a big step in the right direction. It's about the players taking ownership of the team. I think that was severely lacking the last couple years.

that's just me. I don't care for it. It reminds me of that movie You Me and Dupree where Owen Wilson is named the best man and he asks for a special patch. I even view it as needy. But, that's just me.

Blackshirts didn't used to be such a tough thing to handle because we had fucking monsters on that side of the ball. Freshmen and sophomores seldom played. They had to be all world to start, but Bo will start a new fucking corner every other week and he's plainly stated that all incoming freshmen "HAD BETTER GET THEIR BUTTS READY TO PLAY". He is constantly shifting his personnel around. He doesn't trust hardly anyone.

You know what that tells me? He's a poor judge of talent and he is extremely indecisive. Also, because of his poor judge of talent, he has recruited poorly, so there is parity across the board on defense because of the overall mediocrity of the quality of player. Mediocre players are inconsistent, thus causing Bo to constantly second guess and mistrust them.

It's been a gigantic fuckin shit show on that side of the ball since 2010. There is no color of shirt that is going to fix anything going on there. We need better talent. End of story.

The good news is, it looks like we've got it. It's visible, but we'll find out pretty quickly whether this young bunch is the real deal, or if they're all show and no go.

I think it shows that Bo is maturing as a coach. It has been his style to play those who have been in the system because they understand (allegedly) the defense. It was the safe play for him. NOW, he says he will be playing the play makers. ANYONE who plays hard and plays well will be on the field.
Now if it actually happens, well, we will just have to wait and see. But, his words sound like a coach who is ready to take a chance on the younger, more talented players.

Or, I could be completely wrong.

could you imagine if Taylor had not been named a team captain?

He's one stubborn son of a bitch. This should have happened a long time ago. Him and the board of regents resistance to change has severely hurt this program the last 3 or so years.

We should have signed with Nike, we should have had captains a long time ago, we should have had Big Red Weekend from day one, and we should have cast a wide net in recruiting from the jump. HWSNBN used aggressive recruiting tactics and you saw what Bo did with those guys. Bo was way too passive in his first couple years. He paid dearly for it. You see them progressively getting more and more aggressive and making the hard sell instead of sitting back and saying "we're Nebraska. If you don't wanna be here, then we don't want you either". That dog won't hunt in this day and age.

I always felt that he needed to be better with the media, for no other reason that recruits are watching you. A lot of them are not going to talk to you, just based on what they seen of you. You got Spurier, and Mile clowning around, kids are going to love that.

The AM game really hurt him recruiting wise, I believe. Him blowing up at Martinez I felt was a huge mistake. I wish that had never happened. You can be a jerk to the media and the players when you have the resume Saban has. But until you do, I know it sucks, but kiss up to the media.

Now, having done the Harlem Shake video I thought was great. And lets be honest, the Jack td run doesn't hurt either in changing the perception of Pelini.

One thing for sure, there needs to be a flat out shark hired for recruiting. I keep saying, go get Ron Zook, go get him, dude can recruit.

:10:

As much as we don't like that previous coach thank The Lord he didn't leave the cupboard empty as bo best defense came in the late 08-2010 run. You touch on all points that are problems that have plagued that side and how thankful we are and miss suh Dillard david Asante Gomes prince dennard hagg turner Allen and the list goes on of players that took on Bo concept and played locked down defense

As for blackshirts being handed out F that earn em. Go out there play lock down defense shut and destroy offenses and you will get em.

One last thing I want to add. Bo defensive of concepts are tough and take a good 2 years to grasp if not talented i.e. 2011 till now defense. So unless he get top talent I think he needs to dummy it down because seriously it doesn't work with avg talent and if talent is avg it need a suh or David or hagg to cover up loose ends. Think how bad we would have been in '11 without David ? Think how the run defense was gashed up when suh left!

Bo defense with the right players is like a Ferrari but you can't sub out those part with Honda or Toyota parts. Either get the top guns or adjust bc in big games are defenses looks lost and there was a lot of senior and 2-3 yr players on last year defensive squad

Brasky preaching that revival!!! Church is in session. Preach!

Nike teams nabbing recruits when it comes to jersey and apparel.look at Oregon wvu Baylor I've been begging for uni switch up the young cats these days want to look fresh.bama gets away with it bc they are winning but weren't bama.
We keep playing this old man game live by the name were gonna get left behind. I don't buy are recruiting excuse bc if cally could get talent here then it's possible for any coach to.
