Who would another be? Guess Ankrah could fit
Nah. I like it the way it is. The most deserving guys got it IMO. Consistent, proven players. Ankrah is neither of those things.
I wonder if they will get a "C" patch on their jersey like HWSNBN gave out.
I don't see anything wrong with that, but that's just me. I really don't think we should use the same patch we did during the dark age. Call me superstitious or whatever, but I wouldn't like being reminded of that every time I see our captains.
I like it. I don't know why you think it looks childish. It signifies leadership and lets the person who has it and his teammates know who is to be looked to when things get tough. And they will get tough. It can be easy to forget who needs to be taking responsibility and who needs to be respected and trusted in the heat of battle. It means the person who has it has accepted and dedicated themselves completely to being a model teammate who everyone can and should look to.
Bout fucking time.
Maybe blackshirts get handed out first week of fall ball too..

Really I don't care that much either way about whether a guy has the C on his jersey, it's just the fact that coach Bo himself assigned specific players to be accountable for the whole team and to be coaches on the field for the rest of the season. Not just one game, but the entire season.
We've had this conversation on this board quite a bit. It needed to happen a long time ago, but I think this maybe shows that Bo has finally decided that he has a group of guys he absolutely knows he can trust to consistently be model teammates. They are proven leaders whom everyone on the team respects. It's a big step in the right direction. It's about the players taking ownership of the team. I think that was severely lacking the last couple years.
He's one stubborn son of a bitch. This should have happened a long time ago. Him and the board of regents resistance to change has severely hurt this program the last 3 or so years.
We should have signed with Nike, we should have had captains a long time ago, we should have had Big Red Weekend from day one, and we should have cast a wide net in recruiting from the jump. HWSNBN used aggressive recruiting tactics and you saw what Bo did with those guys. Bo was way too passive in his first couple years. He paid dearly for it. You see them progressively getting more and more aggressive and making the hard sell instead of sitting back and saying "we're Nebraska. If you don't wanna be here, then we don't want you either". That dog won't hunt in this day and age.
Blackshirts didn't used to be such a tough thing to handle because we had fucking monsters on that side of the ball. Freshmen and sophomores seldom played. They had to be all world to start, but Bo will start a new fucking corner every other week and he's plainly stated that all incoming freshmen "HAD BETTER GET THEIR BUTTS READY TO PLAY". He is constantly shifting his personnel around. He doesn't trust hardly anyone.
You know what that tells me? He's a poor judge of talent and he is extremely indecisive. Also, because of his poor judge of talent, he has recruited poorly, so there is parity across the board on defense because of the overall mediocrity of the quality of player. Mediocre players are inconsistent, thus causing Bo to constantly second guess and mistrust them.
It's been a gigantic fuckin shit show on that side of the ball since 2010. There is no color of shirt that is going to fix anything going on there. We need better talent. End of story.
The good news is, it looks like we've got it. It's visible, but we'll find out pretty quickly whether this young bunch is the real deal, or if they're all show and no go.
