Nike teams nabbing recruits when it comes to jersey and apparel.look at Oregon wvu Baylor I've been begging for uni switch up the young cats these days want to look fresh.bama gets away with it bc they are winning but weren't bama.
We keep playing this old man game live by the name were gonna get left behind. I don't buy are recruiting excuse bc if cally could get talent here then it's possible for any coach to.

I'm an Adidas man, and while they could improve a lot in the uniform front, ND, Texas AM and Michigan are all Adidas team, and they are doing very well recruiting wise.

Young cats love it and they flock to teams that do it and those teams reap the benefits. Irish have a nice class Johnny manziel has tamu the talk of Texas.

Look at Oregon.. Seriously when Oregon walks into recruit homes they already have half their Job done for them.

It's a new era of football join it or get left behind. All these 90's theories and style are done gonna keep up. Adidas has wanted for awhile to do different uni Bo and Tom said no!!....

That all I ask 2-4 alt that we wear 2-3 times a year. And Oregon is doing just fine recruiting wise they are fast talented and I love their uni. Not gonna lie when I work out and play bball and Fb I rock their colors I hear kids talk(young ones in high school ) talk about jersey and looking nice sad but true. Nite

Handing them out in fall ball does two things.
1. Inspire leadership.
2. Creates competition. Guys who have them strive to keep, those who don't work harder also.


After watching the last few years, holding the blackshirts back till the D has a few good weeks does two things.
1. Creates division in the defense.
2. Gives the d the feeling that they have arrived.

Has there ever not been a major let down the week after they have been handed out in season.


IMO you earn your Blackshirt between January and September... not in october

But we used to have rotation in capt weekly and there has a been a revolving door in players starting and lineup changes since 2011 ESP in the secondary and lb corp and even this year. So those guys that would have won them would have been replaced weekly as we've seen lineup wise. Not to mention talent and player wise not many truly deserve it. Just because you play defense for Nebraska doesn't mean you deserve to wear the blackshirts go back to what zac bowman said back in 07. Your production and work on sat has to back it up nobody gona care what you do or say in the off season if your getting blown up during the regular season.

As for the let down cant argue that, that has been an issue since 09 but to me that is part of the mental issue with the team as a whole. For whatever reason Nebraska gets alil success then they find ways to blow up that success. Every year if we get a decent win a bad loss follows or a blowout loss happens... If for the defense side you want to pin that on blackshirts/player feeling they have arrive I can dig it but I think as whole they have let downs.

But you made some good points I just believe you gotta back it up game day wise. Just because you play defense doesn't mean you deserve it ESP if your getting replaced or blasted during big games .

As far as the Blackshirts go I would only had out a few maybe two or three. And then as the weeks go on hand out more OR take them away if need be. But, and maybe this is just me but I dont know it the Blackshirts mean anymore then a pocket full of wooden nickels to kids these days. I know to us they sure as hell do. But to try to sell a kid a blackshirt when our D shitty they will laugh at you. Now our secondary was great the last two years untill we played south carolina and Georgia and the just exsposed us. Brasky is right we need better talent.

but the fact that Damion PJ Cam Baker and Will get to run around the rest of their lives telling everyone they were Blackshirts is a joke.

Nebraska didn't always have the best defenses in the 60's 70's and 80's and 90's. They still had black-shirts issued in fall for the #1 unit and it made them all better. Return the black-shirt program and tradition to what it was in the decades before Bo got here.

Cosgrove trashed them by tossing them out by the armload in team meetings like they were candy.
Bo has micro-managed them in the opposite extreme resulting in the same worthlessness.

How can anyone argue that what Bo is doing with is them making this defense any better?

Go back to hanging them in lockers the day of practice after the first week of fall camp. Only 11 or 12 of them. After that....

"Player X, you've been slacking lately so you lost your black-shirt. You'd better get your mind right and work harder if you want it back."

"Player Y, congratulations, you took the Black-shirt for that position and will be starting on Saturday. Keep up the hard work if you want to retain it."
