According to someone that watched the Sunday night coaches show Bo made a comment about how the crowd was flat and the team needed to create their own energy. Also according to someone else Carl made a comment about the crowd after the game.

If this is true, hey Bo and Carl, maybe if you were playing a team that wasn't so horrible and you cared a little less about your defense for 2 seconds and got your offense to actually get us excited about something then maybe we will get excited. I may have gotten my tickets for the game for free but you can kiss my ass with those fucking comments. This is a trend for your offense not a vanilla group of plays for shitty Kansas just to get through it. I like what you guys are building but fuck off with these comments about the fans. Look in the god damn mirror.

I don't understand the whole Vanilla type play calling thing. At what point of the season do you decide that you shouldn't score too many touchdowns. Injuries shminjuries, our starting QB has a bum ankle so now we will not score any touchdowns?

With the crowd comment from the coaches, well that's on them like you said, put a product on the field to get excited about first (offensively). Last year I would DVR the first 45 min of the game just so I could fast forward through the offensive possessions and watch the defense play

I don't want to start an argument or anything, but I agree with Bo, and it's something that has been forming ever since the Callahan era.......the crowd has this problem of having a "we're playing a nobody today so we shouldn't act like we're playing somebody" attitude.

The defense was AWESOME!!!!! And even with them flying around to the ball and crushing Kansas the crowd still didn't get into it. Again, I'm not blaming any 1 or 2 people that went to the game........there are 85,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,999 people there and if the majority of the crowd is soft, then it's gonna sound soft.

That whole crowd has got to get into it, not just a few people. I can guarantee you it was different during the 90s because I used to get to go to a lot of those games. We would play cream puffs and the place would get so loud when we were on defense that I started to feel dizzy because the stadium looked and felt like it was vibrating.

Now you watch, when we go down to College Station, a good group of Nebraska fans will travel down there.........and whether or not we are playing exciting football or not, our crowd of people will be louder than shit just because this game is a bigger game.

Blame the blue hairs.

They spend all their energy in a 3-4 hour Saturday time period telling people to sit down and be quiet. I took a nephew (11y/o) a few years ago and almost got into a fight with some punk because either his mom/grandma (who was sitting directly behind me)kept yelling "SIT DOWN", "SIT DOWN", "SIT DOWN" over and over and over again at the people around me. They were not standing constantly only on big important plays. After about 1/2 hour of listening to "SIT DOWN" being screamed in my ear, I turned to her and said she was ruining the game for us, that those standing paid for their tickets as well as she, and that maybe she should stay home if she didn't like a football game environment.

Immediately after the game her punk 25ish son/grandson came up to me and my 11y/o nephew and got in my face saying something about if I had a problem we could settle it right here. I said meh and walked away because my nephew was with me, but later regretted I didn't knock the teeth down his throat right there in front of granny...

I will be loud as fuck on Saturday because that is me.

However, if Nebraska keeps playin down to weaker competition you can't expect fans to be at their loudest either.

I will say this though also.........Bo is partly at fault for it. During the 90s I remember the Peter brothers and Tomich and Wistrom and all those badass mofos........they would walk out on the field with so much energy that the crowd couldn't help but get crazy.

Back then our players really let loose out on the field........Bo has said he doesn't allow his defensive players to do that stuff because he doesn't want them to get too high or too low. That's fine because the defense is playing excellent................but the crowd does feed off the players and the players in turn feed off the crowd.

That's a big reason why it was so hard to win at Nebraska while Tom Osborne was there. The defensive unit mixed with the crowd made it so intimidating.

I can tell you right now if I would have been on the other side of the ball and saw Christian Peter standing over there acting like he was having a seizure........I would be peepeeing in my pants.

Well said sir..........

Regarding the "blue hairs".... it's 100% true......

As far as the opponent mattering...... It has a lot to do with the demographics of the fans..... bigger games gather people who don't get to go to as many games as others.. they are going to be more excited.... the amount of people who have season tickets over the age of 60 IMO is a major problem........ I don't want to tell them to stay home..... but there was a guy behind me who I could ask for any stat.... but I never heard his voice get over a mello "way to go" :L and I know he is a long time season ticket holder......

I think there should be a limit of 5 years on season tickets...... after that- you go back to the end of the line......

Also- with the "weaker" opponents...... you get more families...... three 8 year olds may be screaming at the top of their lungs- but there voice won't carry like 3 34 year olds....

I also go back to things I mentioned in the other thread.....

I love my vets...... I'm part of a military family...... I believe it was Kansas' second or 3rd drive they had the ball at 3rd and 4....... took a timeout...

The stadium played a sob story about a vet and his widow- and how his widow is at the stadium...... 5 seconds later they want the crowd to be "amped"??????? Are you fucking shitting me, I had to dry my fucking eyes- you fucking dumbasses...... Save that shit for the half- or qtr...

And the ads........... Jebus ffn christ the ads....... :L

Yeah I honestly think some of the older folks are more hostile than fans of the opposing team.

I have been a long time basher of the crowd at Nebraska home games not being nearly as intimidating as most Husker fans want to believe it is.

My anger over this comes from the coach coming out and publicly saying this and being 2 faced about it.

This is the same coach that was called a "punk" for saying the crowd noise factor in Washington is over blown. So does crowd noise only play a factor in Lincoln?

This was a conference game that you were supposed to win and had to win to keep your Big 12 title game hopes alive and the far outside shot at a national title game. Do you really need the crowd to get excited for the game?

This is the same coach that down plays every thing the fans get excited for. Like the ferver over Texas. He down played the intensity that the fans were going to have for that game.

Just don't come out and continue to play down to your opponents like you do and the fans won't be "flat".

I don't care that he doesn't care what us fans think. That is perfectly fine with me because I believe he is actually being honest there. Just don't then turn around and blame us for your team playing like shit (obviously the defense played great but it was a terrible team as well).

Apparently Bo can't let it go either. After practice today he said, "It was dead. I was disappointed. I felt like I was at a scrimmage."

Hey Bo, why don't you act like the crowd and shut your mouth.

What a lot of people don't realize also is that during the Callahan era, THOUSANDS of season ticket holders gave up their tickets........and during that time period who was going to buy those tickets besides maybe silly bastards like myself???........the rich bluehairs.......they would buy them.

The crowd as a whole has actually changed because of the Callahan era, and 90% of the crowd noise is currently coming from the student section.

It's funny now that Bo came to Lincoln suddenly we have a high demand for season tickets and the bluehairs don't want to give them up........so we add more seats.
