So uhhh... this team fucking blows.

I could go down the list player-by-player but half the team are 4th line hacks that have no business playing in the NHL, so what fun is that?

I don't know... I don't really have anything good to say.

This team isn't fun to watch -- boring as shit, EVERY night. Maybe one exciting game every 2-3 weeks.

Yeah, I know Havlat and Clowe (and now Burns?) are hurt and missing a bunch of games, but still. The team sucked shit even with them IN the lineup.

I'm not freaking out or anything... hell, it's almost the opposite... I have lost all feeling of any emotion when the Sharks lose these days. I'm just like, "meh... another half-assed effort by everyone" and /shrug.

The sad part is while those guys really don't have much skill they do bust their asses game in and game out. That's why in January Marleau, Pavs, Clowe and Thornton have combined for 9 goals while Ferriero, McGinn, Mitchell, Wingels and Winchester have combined for 10. That's fucking pathetic. IMO it all starts with Thornton. His shit attitude is like a fucking disease that has infected the top two lines. Somehow Couture seems to be immune and Dougie needs to get Jumbo's lazy ass out of here before Couture starts to emulate his play. I really do believe that moving Thornton and replacing him with another 4th liner would make the Sharks a better team. Despite that feeling, the Sharks could probably still get a decent player in return for Thornton. But it's not gonna last forever and Thornton's value continues to plummet every day. If he's not gonna play hard get him out of here and bring someone in who will. Then over the next few weeks see who is playing hard and who isn't. If guys like Marleau are still invisible then send them away as well. But I'd love to see this team have a chance to play with Thornton gone. I really think there would be quite a drastic change to the lazy effort we see game in and game out from the "talent" on this team.

I have given Joe a bit of a pass as I have seen better efforts from him in the playoffs: more grit and determination.. but he's either hurt or just fed up this season. Patty is once again putting in a "most overpaid" like performance... you know he will hit a streak at some point to appease the critics but who knows when and for how long.

imho - those two guys are responsible for setting a lot of the feel of this team. Both are great guys, have immense (but decreasing) talent, but many times appear invisible on the ice - almost lethargic.

It may be time to shake some things up. This core had about 4-5 chances to bring home a cup and instead provided excuses and platitudes... its a real shame. I am not seeing them get any better moving forward.

I don't think you can blow it up. Do Patty and Joe have no trade clauses? And what is with Pavelski? He seems to have disappeared too after a nice start.

I believe Jumbo has a no trade clause in his contract. Regards to Pavelski, he is not a 1st liner, IMO. He is great and can do his magic (score big goals) on a 2nd or 3rd line.

I'm positive Marleau has a NTC too... all veteran players on large contracts have NTCs pretty much by default these days.

So ask the lazy pieces of shit to waive them. Worst case, they say 'no' and at least you make them aware that you no longer want them around.

At best, it'll motivate them a bit. At worst, it'll hurt their feeble little feelings. Win-win, IMO.

Agreed. When your appointed leader is half assing around on the ice, it is a detriment to the team's attitude. "Why should I bust my ass when Captain is just loafing around?" I'm pretty sure very few of us agreed with giving Thornton the C for this very reason. Maybe because of playing in the playoffs for so many years, Thornton and the team is just waiting for playoff time. The lulls of the regular season have them uninterested.

This team does have a lot of talent when healthy, but right now they are not. Missing two of their top 6 forwards, an area they were shallow to begin with is going to hurt big time. Their D is still solid (when Burns is in there) but scoring goals is going to be tough, though you would think with Marleau, Pavs, Couture, Jumbo that it shouldn't be that big of a problem.

As for blowing it all up, that's just not going to happen at this time. PattyJoe both have NMCs and I know they love it here in San Jose where the media doesn't scrutinize them for their lackadaisical play. Life is too good for the both of them here. But boy, would I love a Thornton+ for Iginla trade.

Well, here's a list of the other 7 teams currently in he top 8 in the West with how I think the Sharks would do against them in a 7-game first round series:

Detroit - Lose.. MAYBE push it to 7 but doubt it.
Vancouver - LOL.. Swept?
St. Louis - Lose
Chicago - LOL... not even close... Swept or lose in 5.
Nashville - Might win this one.
Los Angeles - Win or lose a close one. 50-50?
Colorado - No idea, they prolly wouldn't make it anyway.

So, yeah, that doesn't look very encouraging... what's going to change? Havlat and Clowe coming back?

Color me skeptical...

First off I do understand how you feel RARES after a Sharks lose "I used to get upset and scream and throw things, but know I just shake my head and change the channel." The Sharks have to figure out what the problem is. I don't think its time to BLOW THINGS UP yet, but I do believe that its time for a new coach. But I don't know who the Sharks would hire.
I do believe D. Wilson FUCKED UP this team during the offseason, and now we have to suffer for it. I think we all worried about the Shark's depth and lack of firepower would be a issue.
Until this team gets back on track, I really don't wanna think of this team making the playoffs because frankly this isn't a playoff team.

Yeah, no worries... I know Dougie won't do any major shake-up anyway.

I'm just venting, really.

Also, I put together a chart of points through games played comparing last year vs. this year and it doesn't look as bad as I thought:

http://goo.gl/Y1hwt

But still... this team just looks worse to me than last year's...

LOL the team is in first place in the division with 4 games in hand on the kings all while playing subpar to put it nicely and your talking about blowing up the roster, they are also 1 of 11 teams on the + side of GA and GF its really not that bad

Pavleski always disappears, you can set a watch to it. People like to get on Marleau about his streaky scoring but Pavelski is by far worse in those regards.

He string 3 or 4 multiple point games together then go blank for the next 10. Have 1 multiple point game disappear for 3 more. Marleaus streaks tend to last for 10 or more games then he doesnt score for 5 and people are calling for his head.

Its Ebbs and Flows of a long season in his case, slowvelski not so much

Haha.. OK, I'll bump the thread in a couple weeks, halfway through the 10-game winless streak... how's that? :p

Kork, don't throw some logic into this!!! People want to act like the sky is falling!!! LOL.
They were playing well up until the 3 loses last week. Losing Clowe has certainly hurt. I know people have complained about Havlat, but he played welll with Couture and Clowe, and having him out doesn't help things either.
Let's look at how they have played the top teams in the West:

They are 2-0 vs Detroit. Beat them soundly both games.
1-2 vs Chicago. Chicago dominated 1 of the games, Sharks outplayed them in 1, and the other was about even.
I think they are 1-3 vs Vancouver, with just about each game being OT or shootout.
Not sure what their record is vs LA....They'll be a team to watch in the playoffs.
I'm not sold on the Blues yet....Let's see if they can keep it up....

The Sharks have put in solid regular season performances for the last 4-5 years - that's just the audition.. and it hasn't translated into any shiny hardware come spring. These guys are not getting any younger and you have to ask yourself if you think this core can really deliver in the playoffs.

Do you honestly look at this team and see them dominating the top of our conf? What about the Flyers or Bruins?

I really want these guys to do well but it seems like the trainers have been slipping ambien into the water bottles or something.
